I love this living style. Classic and comfortable.
It´s a pity I cannot afford it and have to be content with sth. like this:

Bedroom should be comfy and simple, big but not huge, relaxing, with a wide bed, book shelves at hand and large windows facing the sea.

I think men prefer modern furnitures. I hate modern: it seems to me cold and aseptic. Nothing can substitute the charme and the elegance of classic houses.
Usually sellers look surprised when they meet a young girl who likes classic furnitures.

Sextatio hotels are in medieval Abruzzese poors' style. Can look ghosty but it's very particular.

I'm much more 'Northern' in this sense indeed, although I try to find a perfect balance between Nordic coldness and Southern baroquism. Maybe because I associate baroque-looking decoration with my granny's house, which I didn't particularly like. I like space.

Do you think northerns prefer ultramodern to the classic European style?
What about the style liberty, decò, nouveau/jugendstil? Those are very granny's style (my grandma's house was decò) but I like it.

Sorry, I correct myself. Sextantio hotels ARE medieval Abruzzese houses that have been only partially renovated to work as hotel rooms. They DO are ghostly. Imagine in 1700 years how many people have lived and died inside them...

In this day and age i think that a happy medium can be reached between the two.
I dont think that you have to have one or the other but a combination of both, craftsmanship plus the benefits of modern living.
I have in my house for instance an Etruscan vase that sits very well next to a modern light....antique beauty and modern convinience.

Oh, indeed, Northerners have their classic styles too. I was obviously referring to what is known nowadays as Nordic Design. Not that I want a cold home, my home has always got a warm touch, but I definitely prefer that design to recherché ones. A combination of taste and simplicity, which isn't always easy to find.

I like the Arts & Craft style or the American Craftsman as it became known after coming over from Europe.
This would be the period around 1910 to 1925 and included designers like the Stickley Bros. and Frank Lloyd Wright.
It's the period in design in the US bewteen the Victorian/Queen Anne style of the late 1890's and the yet to come Art Deco era.
My bedroom with bedroom set in Stickley sytle I made from rough lumber:

^ I like this one, for the window seat and furniture and the ample natural light, but I would want to get rid of the dry, artificial plants and knick-knacks and change the window covering. I'd want curtains that are flowery, with ruffles or lace, perhaps.

^ I would get rid of that ugly lamp and change the wallpaper, and throw out all the framed pictures (the one on the wall too), but I like the rest of it. I'd want wall-to-wall carpeting, not that bare floor.

^ I'd take the framed pictures off of the wall and throw them out, or at least move them away from above the headboard.
I have a general aversion to things on the wall above/near a bed that can fall and injure me (picture frames, glass vases, vases, mirrors, potted plants, books/bookshelves), but fabric is okay (canopies).

If there is one room in the house where I'd concede heavy baroque style, that's the library. ^ Those two are really great.
For a country house:

I'm not sure on the semantics of what qualifies as baroque... aesthetically and superficially speaking, for me, the first picture I posted qualifies as "heavy baroque".

I like modern, clean-cut, geometrical, simple and minimal. Too many ornaments, fabrics and floral patterns give me a headache :)
