An army of 500 blondes will try to put a smile back on the face of recession-weary Latvians by staging a festival this weekend designed to show that they really do have more fun.
The Blonde Weekend will include a parade by a bevvy of blondes through the streets of the capital Riga, to the accompaniment of music from a blonde orchestra, a fashion show and an evening ball.

There will even be a golf tournament only open to blonde women, say the organisers.

"The economic situation is such that society needs these types of events," Marika Gidere, head of Latvia's Blondes' Association, told AFP.

"People are depressed, they don't have enough positive emotions. And this is something very positive and fun. And we know that blondes have more fun," she said, adding she expected at least 500 women to attend the event.

Parade involving about 1,000 blonde girls dressed in pink, white and red dresses in Riga, the capital of Latvia. The girls, many of whom have brought their pets along, marching from Rainis Monument to the Daugava River embankment. The parade motto is "Let's Make the World a Brighter Place."

Ah! :D The main difference though, these Latvian ones are real, natural blondes. A rare sight these days.

Most of them look like they've bleached their hairs in addition to reach that "platinium" blond colour, popular among silicone supporters;) All of them seem natural blondes and I'm sure their real hair colours are ways more beautiful.
Such actions establish more the not so positive image of the blondes like not quite intelligent dolls dressed in pink, not like beautiful women with not only physical qualities.

Indeed! It is sometimes difficult for non-Nordics/Baltics to realise that true blondism is quite common there.

Is not the light hair colour what makes me think it is fake, but the % of girls with exactly the same colour. It's quite hard to find people with the same shades.

Sad that i am not in Latvia --- the idea was a very good one!! :thumb001: I love the idea and i would liked it to have a chance to go to the demo too!! :p Most on the photos are not bleached and near all are natural blonde , i can tell you. Come to our country and see with the own eyes!! :)

Are you trying to insult me in every thread possible? Latvia is a free country, I do not need to "liberate" anything.

I do not know about the "nice looks" of Latvian males or any males, because I am straight and I like hot Estonian women:coffee: But I can say, that Latvians look just like Estonians, at least the majority light ones.

I go to school in Germany now and after that i want to study at a German university!! I dont break up my school. My parents left with me to give me better opportunities and a better life situation and i am not wasting it!!

When i am well educated i really want go back to Latvia for family. I have best oportunities because i speak Latvian and German and maybe my English gets better also....i can work as a translator or at an other job. :) I am optimist!! :thumbs up

Probably only in Latvia. I am a university-trained translator and an only tell you that in Germany you cannot live on that skill and won't find regular employment. You may have a chance in Brussels though, if you're really good at a fourth language (English does not really count there).

On a related note, yesterday was a mourful day for all women in Finland: our minister of labour, Liisa Hyssälä. killed off the nr. 2 sexiest prodession in this country by decreeing that all asphalt men must wear shirts and hard-hats. :(

Hm it is unsure. I have to see how good or bad my abitur results will be!! :rolleyes: You know my curent grade point average is at 3,2 and if i can hold it at the final exams not everything is open for me. Some interesting study paths have numerus clausus and will have to apply at different unis. Okay i have a little advantage maybe ----- there are special grade borders for students with foreign nationality but i dont want to abuse it!! I am interested in ethnology, modelling , media and social work. If i can not find a good uni i can go to a FH for studying BA of social arts or something. If i want to be a translator i must not have a diploma in Latvia , the job is always a option for me regard-less what i study. :wink On the side i look for opportunities to work as a model for many years , before in Latvia and now in Germany. Hm but i doubt i have a chance to become a professional who can live with the job and money , lol! :D ^_^ Very less offers.

Thank for the info!! I dont want to work in Brussels because i dont want to support EU. :rolleyes2: In Latvia translators are needed: Many buisness people from Germany are there after the economic boom with branches of their companies!

And by going to Brussels you first and foremost support yourself, not the EU.

While ethnology, media and social work are very interesting (or can be) you can forget to ever work in that field. Trust me, I studied humanities and only 3-5% of them can make their studies their profession. And you probably don't want to spend the rest of your life at school. ;)

Given Latvia's current economically deprived economy this sort of looks like an effort to promote tourism, the wrong type of tourism . . . . . . . . . . . . . . sex tourism.
