... IMO Netherlands should be part of a larger Europe, not fiercely independent.
Here is why:
The Dutch are too small a nation to exert a global influence. However, they are sort of the nobility of Europe.
The mighty Frankish Empire was started off by essentially a clan of Dutchmen.
Now in the EU, Dutchmen have been given the opportunity again to rise to the very top. They are very Germanic without the German stigma. Dutch military commanders are very successful in NATO and the European Union military command structures.
The international criminal court is in the Hague.
The seat of the EU is in Brussels (pretty much Dutch).
Dutch people are well respected worldwide, have a reputation of fairness - well-deserved.
If the Dutch go alone again, all these wonderful opportunities will be lost. If Netherlands remains at the centre of European politics, military and affairs ... expect great things to happen.
