He wrote a controversial book in which he claims first romanian rulers had cumans descent.
He is from a family of aromanians.
I will not say my opinion, since I do not want to influence you.

Dinaro-Norid, and it would be impossible to say whether he has Cuman ancestry, since they were diluted into the population such a long time ago.

Well his epicantus fold are not preseting any traces of cuman ancestry, same with the shape of his eyes, his skin color and so on.
Not to mention his high vault.

Dinaric + Nordid.

I agree with G F above, any Cuman strains were absorbed long ago.

GeistFaust is right. It`s impossible to adhere someone`s look to medieval Cumans because unfortunately they lost their true identity and assimilated among Bulgarians, Romanians, Hungarians, Macedonians. Some of them also settled in Turkey but because our language was quite same with them, they quickly lost their unique Cuman identity here in Turkey too.

But if you wanna get a grasp of how Cumans looks, you better look at Cumans in Hungary, Szekely people in Romania. The ones in Hungary still proudly expresses their Cuman Turkic ancestry today despite that they lost their Turkic language in favor of magyar after 17th century.

Whats controversial about that? The very first Romanian state was founded by Cuman Turks. This is a fact. Cumans was also the founders of 2nd Bulgarian kingdom.

The founders of Romanian state, the Basarab monarchy was Cumans. Basarab is already a corruption of Turkic word "Basar oba". This was a title among Cumans meaning "ruling house of father/tribe".

The founders of 2nd Bulgarian kingdom was the monarchy of "Shisman" meaning stout, powerful man in Turkic.

Just try to be logic. Do you really think the sedentary mountain slavs of Bulgaria or sheep herding Vlach peasants of Romania could have possibly oppose eastern Romans then beat their ~50.000 men strong armies and create their own states? Do you think it was possible without Turkic armies? Without Cuman armies, eastern Romans could wipe all the Bulgarian slavs and Romanian Vlachs from the earth. Dacians lived under Roman slavery for centuries and they assimilated you with ease. Do you think it was just a coincidence that you founded your first state after the arrival of Cumans?

First bulgarian empire had cuman rulers, but 2nd bulgarian empire is said to have vlach/romanian rulers.
I do not deny that cumans came and settled in Romania and Balkans and maybe Hungary, but I doubt the first romanian rulers were cumans, but rather romanians of gothic descent.
First states of Romania I think were created by goths with some time before the bulgars came and with a lot of time before the cumans came to Romania.

In the time when Saint Sava the Goth was living in Dacia/Romania there were gothic kings ruling that part of Romania/Dacia.

Alaric I was born in Dacia/Romania in Danube Delta.
