His real name is Jürgen Zopp, just saying.

Nordid-Faelid.

Slightly Baticized Faelid with a strong Nordid influence, and he has more of a Central/Northern European look to me, although I suppose he could be interpreted as a more Baltic looking individual.

His ancestry is 0% Baltic.

Yeah I would not doubt that, because he looks more Central/Northern European.

What I meant is that he is an ethnic Estonian/Finnic.

Yes I apologized, I misplaced the term you were using with what it was representing. He does look a bit more Central/Northern European to me nonetheless. Do you know how much German he might have?

0%?

He doesn't have any foreign admixture as far as I know. You have an overly romantic view of the Germans.

I used to have a friend in the past, who's nickname was "Schwarz", because he was rather dark compared to us, he was 1/4 German.

Well I was going based off of his name in full, and I know full well that there were Germans who came to Estonia. My overly romantic view of Germans had little to do with the classification though. That is cool regarding your friend.

There was never a German colonization of Estonia.

Germans = Merchants in towns and rulers who lived in mansions, separate from the Estonians.

Germans had more Estonian influence than the Estonians had German influence. All successful Estonians who wanted to become more successful (merchants for example) had to assimilate into the German population and start speaking German instead of Estonian.

A lot of Estonians have German and Scandinavian surnames, it isn't a sign of foreign ancestry, though.

Yes I see, I appreciate the explanation.

No, the Germans simply took posession of Estonian lands and established several towns and colonies after the Crusades...

No German peasants ever came here. Crusaders(they became the rulers in the rural areas), priests and merchants came here.

What I see as colonization: Swedish peasants coming to SW-Finland and Western-Estonia.

I have had to write quite a lot of papers on this subject in the past. One reason why there was no colonization was because there was no land-link between Germany and Estonia. Prussia is a good example, Germans colonized Prussia and the local Balts went extinct. Or modern-day Eastern-Germany also.

What did the Germans do: They lived in towns, ruled over the country, traded, built mansions/castles in the rural areas and ruled from there etc.

Well I guess its a question of semantics then, how to define colonisation. In the case of the Eastern Baltic becoming a German possession, it is a form of colonisation at the very least. But that's interesting what you say about the lack of German peasant colonisation. However, German held posessions did stretch from Prussia all the way to the Gulf of Finland at times in history.

The Germans did have trading colonies all over the place, what a bunch of Jews. :P

In summary-
Estonians should thank Baltic Lithuanians for not becoming Germanized and culturally extinct

What my point was, Germans didn't assimilate into the Estonian population, as there were no colonists (like peasants), there were only rulers.

Estonian merchants did assimilate into the German population and some Baltic-German families descend from pre-crusades Estonian nobles, but all Baltic-Germans left Estonia in 1939 & 1940.

You can find more Estonians with Estonian-Swede ancestors than Baltic-German ancestors, although there were almost 10 times more Germans. That's because the Swedes colonized Estonia, while the Germans didn't.

You should "thank" the Estonians for causing the Northern crusade...
