Macedonia is currently using the same coat of arms from the Yugoslav era, minus the red star on top. It looks very communist to me. I believe Macedonia should change the coat of arms back to the original lion coat of arms.

Current coat of arms:

Yes, I think we should return the red star on top.

The lion has been used as a symbol in Macedonia since ancient time.

Funny that Greeks don't use the lion as a national symbol, yet we Macedonians have always done so. :rolleyes:

Bulgarians also use this ancient symbol. One out of many things that makes Macedonians and Bulgarians close. :)

The coat of arms concept didn't exist in Caesar's and Alexander's time. Those are an artist's idea from 1000+ years later.

This lion figure is also adopted as national coat of arms by Bulgaria about 10 years ago. They copied the coat of arms of 2nd Bulgarian kingdom which was founded by Cuman Turks and obviously this lion symbol was the symbol of medieval Cumans.

The lion might be the symbol of ancient Macedonia too but this particular one with stand up lion is the Cuman one. Cumans not only used it during 2nd Bulgarian kingdom but they also used same symbol in Hungary too, during the years of autonomous Cumania in Hungary and north Romania named as Kunsag by Hungarian kingdom.

Here is the Cuman coat of arms of early 13th century in Hungary/Romania with lion and moon+star;

Yes, Macedonia should change it's coat of arms. The following was the most popular proposal in 1992, and should be adopted;

I like the Bulgarian coat of arms. I like to think that the left side lion is Macedonia and the right side lion is Bulgaria and combined make for a powerful lion displayed in the center. :wink

Not far from the truth. The left and right are Thrace and Moesia. The middle lion is Macedonia, being supported by the other two - Thrace and Moesia.

I honestly didn't know that was the symbolism behind the Bulgarian coat of arms - thanks for the info :thumb001:

And yes - I think Macedonia should change its coat of arms: first of all, the current one is not very nice (the one with the lion is much better) and second, it's always better when national symbols have some historic background instead of just being some modern invention (like the communist coat of arms)...

How can we copy our old coat of arms? It's like saying you copy your father's surname. And if it is founded by Cuman Turks, why the country isn't called Cumania, or something like that? Also, fuck you, with your stupid propaganda.
