Dutch-born war crimes convict dies in Germany

BERLIN — Klaas Faber, a Dutch native who fled to Germany after being convicted in the Netherlands of Nazi war crimes, has died. He was 90.

A hospital official in Ingolstadt, where he lived, confirmed on condition of anonymity because he wasn't authorized to comment officially that Faber died Thursday.

A damn shame that the firing squad didn't get to blow his brains out. I hope that he will burn in hell. :thumb001:

More about him (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Klaas_Carel_Faber):

Second World War

Faber came from a family with a strong Dutch National Socialist background.[2] Faber joined the Waffen SS a month after the German occupation of the Netherlands in 1940. After five months, he abandoned military training for less demanding police jobs in Rotterdam and The Hague.[3] From 1943 to 1944 he was part of a firing squad at the Westerbork concentration camp, the camp Anne Frank passed through on her way to her death at Belsen.[2][4] His activities became even more extreme when his father Pieter Faber, who was a baker at Heemstede, was killed by Hannie Schaft of the Dutch resistance on June 8, 1944.[2][3] He participated in the SS's Silbertanne ("Silver Fir") death squad which targeted members of the Dutch resistance, and those who hid Jews and opposed Nazism.[5] He was also a member of Sonderkommando Feldmeijer, which carried out arbitrary assassinations of prominent Dutch citizens in reprisal for Resistance activities,[6] and he served as a bodyguard to Dutch Nazi leader Anton Mussert.[2][6]
[edit]Post-war

After the war, Klaas Carel Faber was tried by a Dutch court and sentenced to death by firing squad on 9 June 1947, for the murder of at least 11 persons during the war.[7] The Dutch court stated that the Faber brothers were "two of the worst criminals of the SS".[8] Pieter Faber was executed in 1948.[8] On 14 January 1948, Faber's sentence was commuted to life imprisonment. However, on 26 December 1952, he escaped from prison in Breda, with Herbertus Bikker, Sander Borgers and four other former members of the Dutch SS, and the same evening crossed the border into Germany.[9] The escape may have been masterminded by the Stichting Oud Politieke Delinquenten, an organisation of former Dutch fascists and collaborators.[9] As a former member of the SS, Faber had obtained German citizenship.[10] Following his escape Faber went on to live in the Bavarian city of Ingolstadt and before retirement worked for the car manufacturer Audi as an office clerk.[8][11]
[edit]Extradition requests

In 1957, a German court dismissed charges against him for lack of evidence.[4][12] In 1952 Faber obtained German citizenship; at the time a Nazi-era law granted citizenship to foreign Nazi collaborators.[8] Two extradition requests were made by the Dutch in 1954 and 2004 to have Faber returned to complete his sentence. Both requests were denied by the German authorities,[8] the second referring to the 1957 decision of lack of evidence.[12] When new evidence was presented to a Munich court in 2006, the cases were viewed as manslaughter as opposed to murder, and thus outside the statute of limitations. A new arrest warrant from Dutch authorities was required to reopen the case.[12] This happened with the pressure of Dutch war correspondent Arnold Karskens who organised families of the victims and found new evidence against Faber.

I added a comment but it was deleted.

So much for free speech.

Trolling is not necessarily free speech.

Not guilty and extradition twice rejected? Interesting.

Germany is well-known for protecting war criminals since they award foreign SS-men with a German passport since Germany does not extradite it's citizens.

Free speech is stating an opinion which is valid and sincere.

Because it doesnt conform with your narrow minded worldview doesnt mean its trolling.

I stand by what i said,he was a European hero.
Yes.. while your grandparents weren't even in Europe at the time. They were mating with the local tribesmen in Rhodesia (and that's where you come from). We in Europe had a far more serious matter: World War II. With it's fair share of criminals. Any Dutchman who points his gun at his fellow countrymen is not a hero but deserves to die.

Still though, knowing the close Dutch-German relations its strange they declined.

Not close enough. I guess that we are good enough to serve German interests but not the other way around. I think we should have done what the Russians would have with that kind of people: snatch him, shoot him and dump him in front of the Reichsdag building.

You are from Rhodesia. So no, your grandfather would be the local gardener, a munt, because those settlers were no men. They brought their women and children into a dangerous area.

So go back to Africa. Europe for the Europeans. :thumbs up

Who was no bloody saint either.

No, but according to your logic, she pulled the trigger on a fellow dutchman, first.
So, she should also burn in hells.

She pulled the trigger on a traitor that worked for the Germans and that pulled the trigger on his own. She did the right thing and I hope he suffered when he went. Traitors deserve a horrible death. :thumb001:

But there were many more people like him, NS supporters. The war seems to have caused a split in the Dutch society.

20.000 people signed up for the wrong side at a population of over 8.5 million. Not so much of a split. It was more that the majority of the population didn't risk too much and only offered small services to the resistance until the Allies had landed in France: then the country became increasingly dangerous for the Germans because resistance was growing and became better organised and supplied directly from Britain.

Hannie Schaft worked for the resistance. And the resistance was loyal to this:

Loki is from a more respectable background then you are. That happens when your people are Afrikaners which have direct Dutch and British ancestry unlike you Rhodesians that sat down in the jungle and ate monkeys and drank urine together with the natives.
