One of your ancestor was probably a black slave 6th or 7th generation ago (so 200 years) apparently :)

Interesting result but what is interesting is the SSA admix. I would not see this strange especially if the person who is an American and has a colonial ancestry, since some of them will no doubt score some SSA. Congrats on your results Elizabeth, your results in general seem to fit the landscape of your ancestry:)

Not many "white" people have a drop of Sub-Saharan ancestry in America, and if so then it depends on what part of the country. People with colonial ancestry from the South or even more recent ancestry there before the Civil War might have some. In the North generally speaking colonial peoples only married other colonial Europeans, and it was rather taboo to do otherwise.

There were no racial laws or laws against miscegenation, but it was certainly frowned down upon to do involve yourself in an inter-racial marriage. A lot of the mixed-raced people did not mix with white people, but just married other mixed-raced people. It depends on what area of the country, and definitely the more mixed-raced an individual the higher the probability their Sub-Saharan ancestry would be overlooked.

Later on there would be racial laws constructed for a time in the 19th and 20th century, so basically if they found you with a drop of Sub-Saharan ancestry in your background, generally 1/64th of a percent, then you were not considered white.

Congratulations on the results Elizabeth, and have you ever scored such Sub-Saharan before on McDonald's or Eurogenes?

The possible scenarios for such a percentage bracketing are many, but the most probable are 1 great-great-great-great-great grandparent and 1 other great-great-great-great-great-great grandparent or two of these.

African-Americans get West Africa, not Central Africa pygmy & Khoisan.
DNA Tribes Central African peaks in San of Namibia.

If this is real, I think it would be from one of my Dutch ancestors.
Probably South Africa Boers.
My Dutch ancestors lived in New York and New Jersey.
I don't know the lines for some of the Dutch wives.

Yes, that makes sense, so this is most likely archaic admixtures connected with the European continent.

I posted this earlier today at ABF:

I have four new RF matches.

All are anonymous but I sent genome sharing invitations to them.

One is a man with mtDNA L0a1b1a1 and his YDNA is I1*. He is my 38th I1* as of today.

~~~~~~~~~~~~
Since DNA Tribes says I have Central African (Khoisan and pygmies, 100% in San of Namibia) I wonder if this guy is a pygmy descendant. And if yes, I also wonder if he is of Dutch (Boer) descent.
edit: found this online:
Haplogroup L0a is most prevalent in South-East African populations (25% in Mozambique).[3] Among Guineans, it has a frequency between 1% and 5%, with the Balanta group showing increased frequency of about 11%. Haplogroup L0a has a Paleolithic time depth of about 33,000 years and likely reached Guinea between 10,000 and 4,000 years ago. It also is often seen in the Mbuti and Biaka-pygmies.
I also have 23andme matches to white South Africans and a man from the Netherlands who all have African mtDNA. Seems the Boer men had babies with the South African women there.
Yes, but how long was this in terms of your Dutch ancestors coming over here, because I am pretty sure most came straight from the coastal areas of the Netherlands.
Afrikaners and Boers do indeed show minor admix. Usually in the 1% to 2% SSA but often that of a South African nature not West African. This was due to the foundation of the colony in South Africa.One Afrikaner's result show this as well. Having a cousin that seems to have European Y-lineage and South African mtDNA lineage probably make this admix to be real you can be connected to him both through African segments or European segments as well. I think anything from one 1% and above is often real. Especially since the results seem to historically makes sense.
Where did you get this tested?
I sent my 23andme SNP raw data file to DNA Tribes for SNP analysis.
SNP FAQ http://www.dnatribes.com/snpfaq.html
They do STR testing and analysis, if you order a swab kit, but most people nowadays seem to prefer the SNP analysis.
