Which of these American places/monuments do you consider the most iconic in Western US?

I voted Las Vegas just because I think it's quintessentially American with a unique kind of atmosphere. I've never been, though, but would love to visit, seems like an exciting place.

I will go for the Hollywood sign. It's not the prettiest symbol, but the most iconic one.

Hollyweird.

I would think that among people in general it would be the Hollywood sign and Las Vegas with the Hollywood sign having a bit more emphasis.

That said when I think of the West coming from a place in the East I tend to think of places more like Yellowstone Park, Grand Canyon, and Mt. Rushmore.

I tend to think of the West as being the wide open, untamed, and wild portion of America when I utilize images to conceptually describe a place in my own mind.

When i think of the west coast of the US,the only decrepid relic that springs to mind is Sylvester Stallones mother Jackie...........................and the only thing i would pay to see is Phil Specters wig.

The Hollywood sign is probably. You can go up right next to it but don't get caught up there. The grand canyon you can stare at for hours. Both Vegas and Hollywood have a lot of freaks, lowlifes and other disgusting types.

The freaks, lowlifes, and degenerates seem to be the most attractive aspect of America to foreigners.

Its why so many want to visit places like New York City and Miami, although clearly all the history and sites to see in these areas.

I think some of the most glorious places in the West tend to be in the open country and in the natural landscape rather than their nasty cities.

Try monument Valley on the Arizona Utah border. That's worth a visit.

I remember on my visit to Vegas the streets were littered with Pornography. It was just a shit storm of pornographic images everywhere.

West is an amazing place still.. Its home to me.

Tie between Grand Canyon and Yellowstone.

Hollyweird wouldn't be in my top 1,000.

Interesting. I'm not American but I have always considered the area between the Mississippi River and the Rockies was different from the east coast and west coast. For me it's like the provinces of Western Canada, the Canadian Prairies are not like British Columbia.

For me :
East coast = Statue of Liberty
Center = Yellowstone
West coast = Hollywood
The synthesis of eastern, central and western = Gateway Arch in St-Louis

I confess I started this thread because of the celebrations I saw for the 75 years of the Golden Gate. I saw it as a really iconic monument in its sublime simplicity, one of those things that automatically lead to you to the western end, and a source of inspiration for many others. I'm actually a bit surprised it's not been voted yet.

Grand Canyon.
California is nowadays a land for Mexicans and Asians, it's not my western America.

All of them, equally, except Yellowstone, which I didn't really know about.

Hollywood baby and the greater Los Angles area in general.

I've never been west of the Mississippi but if I had a choice between the Nevadan desert and Southern Cal, I'm going surfing every time.

Grand Canyon no doubt. It's majestic, there is nothing like it. To really appreciate its grandeur, you've got to see it with your own eyes IRL.
