I can't believe there isn't one on here, so here it is...

I got these yesterday when I forwarded my 23andme raw data to Dr. McDonald. Interestingly, there is no national category for German, so since I am 3/4 German, I got instead a lot of her neighbor, France.

Here are my results:

Most likely fit is 28.2% (+- 21.6%) Europe (various subcontinents)
and 71.8% (+- 21.6%) Europe (all Western Europe)
which is 100% total Europe

The following are possible population sets and their fractions,
most likely at the top
Russian= 0.127 French= 0.873 or
Tuscan= 0.374 Irish= 0.626 or
Chuvash= 0.083 French= 0.917 or
Hungary= 0.362 French= 0.638 or
Finland= 0.118 French= 0.882 or
Italian= 0.422 Irish= 0.578 or
Belorus= 0.152 French= 0.848 or
Lithuani= 0.114 French= 0.886 or
French= 0.782 Irish= 0.218

Look at the spot on the map for the best guess: somewhere near the
Low Countries, or mostly French or British with a bit of something else European,
or perhaps part German, part French/British.

genome_Patches__Full_20120402222844.txt
Most likely fit is 51.9% (+- 8.9%) Europe (all Western Europe)
and 48.1% (+- 8.9%) Europe (all Northeast Europe)
which is 100% total Europe

The following are possible population sets and their fractions,
most likely at the top
Spain= 0.431 Lithuani= 0.569 or
French= 0.608 Lithuani= 0.392

but that is almost surely saying that it is German, or nearby.
The non-Euro spots on the chromosomes are likely noise.

even though the scatter plot is in England. What this means is that you
have lots of ancestry from east of England, indeed, averaging as far east as Germany.
Lots of people who are essentially all English have Geographical) map spots
as far east assay Holland, but you are farther east. There must be some
sort of more eastern there, but its impossible to tell exactly what.

As to non-Euro, there is 0.3% African on the chromosomes. This is strong
and real, but very very old. The American seen there is almost surely noise
as is the non-Euro on the X.

My Doug McDonald results:

Most likely fit is 70.6% (+- 0.6%) Europe (all Western Europe)
and 29.4% (+- 0.6%) Europe (all Northeast Europe)
which is 100% total Europe

The following are possible population sets and their fractions,
most likely at the top
Irish= 0.712 Finland= 0.288 or
Irish= 0.700 Lithuani= 0.300

which is clearly Scandinavia of some sort. Note that no point can plot on the world map north of a line from Dublin to Helsinki, and that the east-west position in this are is quite uncertain. The point on the scatter plot is clearly not German (which is usually inside the France-England-Hungary triangle) but rather more northern.

Interesting. The little non-Euro that shows up on my chromosomes probably comes from that 3/4 of my ancestors are of Southern German origin, so as I had suspected, there may have been small distant admixture from the old days of the Roman Empire.

Most likely fit is 70.3% (+- 9.1%) Europe (various subcontinents)

and 29.7% (+- 9.1%) S. Asia (various subcontinents)

The following are possible population sets and their fractions,

most likely at the top

Romania= 0.795 S_India= 0.205 or

Spain= 0.612 Pathan= 0.388

and I tried lots of other different parameters for the program and all agree:

the green spot on the map, which is what matters, is somewhere between

Istanbul and Belgrade. But the usual populations that sit in that area ...

Turkish and Jewish, as well as pairs that average Greek or Serbian,

simply don’t work. India, Pathan, or Sindhi are absolutely required

to make it fit.

But the areas on the chromosomes are never “strong” ... all the

areas coded Red (Europe), Violet (Mideast) or Gray (India)

are very close to each other in your case ... a tiny change in

parameters can change any one into any of the other two. This

means you are likely from some single population that lives

somewhere bear the green spot.

The yellow and green spots on the chromosomes are noise.

or perhaps part German, part French/British.

Not bad guess.

Known ancestries are Irish, Welsh, German, Scottish, and French Canadian.

The automated computer results are as follows.

Please read the attached .rtf file for an explanation of how to

interpret all the data and plots. Both can be misleading without interpretation.

Most likely fit is 90.3% (+- 2.1%) Europe (various subcontinents)

and 9.7% (+- 2.1%) Mideast (various subcontinents)

The following are possible population sets and their fractions,

most likely at the top

English= 0.900 Jewish= 0.100 or

English= 0.922 Armenian= 0.078 or

English= 0.911 Sephardic= 0.089 or

English= 0.915 Cypriot= 0.085 or

Germany= 0.877 Sephardic= 0.123 or

English= 0.932 Druze= 0.068 or

Germany= 0.863 Jewish= 0.137 or

English= 0.918 Georgian= 0.082 or

Germany= 0.885 Cypriot= 0.115 or

Germany= 0.906 Druze= 0.094

Second most likely fit is 100% Europe (various subcontinents)

The following are possible population sets and their fractions,

most likely at the top

English= 0.846 Tuscan= 0.154 or

Germany= 0.794 Tuscan= 0.206 or

English= 0.893 Sicily= 0.107 or

English= 0.755 Romania= 0.245 or

Germany= 0.853 Sicily= 0.147 or

English= 0.812 Italian= 0.188 or

Lithuania= 0.557 Tuscan= 0.443 or

Poland= 0.664 Tuscan= 0.336 or

Germany= 0.688 Romania= 0.312 or

French= 0.467 English= 0.533

A better custom fit says

English 0.8661 Basque 0.0363 Jewish 0.0976 or

Irish 0.3353 French 0.6303 Jewish 0.0344 or

Irish 0.3647 French 0.5900 Sephardic 0.0453 or

English 0.8321 Spain 0.0827 Jewish 0.0853

which also looks good on the scatter plots. It fits what you expect ...

including a tiny Jewish bit ... well.
