Hooligans riot in Bosnian town after Croatia's EURO defeat
Source: Beta

Mostar -- Riots broke out in the town of Mostar, Bosnia, in the wake of the defeat of Croatia's football team at the EURO 2012 championship.

Hooligans from the western, Croat part of the town late on Monday clashed with police as they tried to reach the eastern, Bosniak (Muslim) part.

The town has been ethnically - and unofficially - divided ever since the 1992-95 war in Bosnia-Herzegovina.

Beta news agency reported on Tuesday that the hooligans caused incidents near a boulevard that marked the war-time separation line.

The police, pelted with stones and bottles, managed to prevent them from reaching the eastern part of the town.

Local media described the scene as "chaotic", with rioters destroying traffic signs and setting garbage dumpsters on fire in addition to attacking the police, who were forced to use tear gas and deploy special forces in order to finally push the hooligans back.

There have been no official reports about any injuries or material damage. Seven persons were detained, while media reports suggest that several police officers suffered minor injuries.

What that talk of a unified BiH? Please, folks, the three ethnicities in Bosnia want nothing to do with each other anymore. They were living peacefully in Yugoslavia before Western interests tore their country apart. Split this Frankenstein country apart now, before more bloodshed comes.

Just wait until the World cup qualifiers 2014 Serbia vs Croatia. This is nothing on the impending storm. Shame we couldn't replace Belgium for England. :P

Shit happens sometimes, especially in Croatia where some groups don't tolerate the presence of Serbs whatsoever in the country.

I don't talk about the hooligan stuff, but about some local news rather disturbing for the Serb population out there, such as random killings in isolated villages and on which authorities turn a blind eye.

And for this handball match, if I remember well, it was one croatian supporter who started the conflict by agressing the young mascot.
