There are 7 regions. North, Central, Lisbon, Alentejo, Algarve, Azores and Madeira.
Rank them.

I can't rank them, I like them all in their own peculiar way. I like the calmness of countryside Alentejo, the exoticness of Madeira, the green mountains of Minho, the beaches of Algarve...

Sintra is one of the best places I've ever been to, it's simply amazing.

Not to mention these regions vary between themselves, and sometimes not much between others.

For example Norte and Centro (north) are very similar, but Centro (north, interior) is different from Centro (south, litoral), which is similar to "Lisbon" region (Ribatejo). Centre (south, interior) is very similar to Alentejo (north)...and so on..

Yes, Centro is the most varied region by a mile.

With this said, my personal favourite regions (and I won't use the official nomenclature because I find it dumb) are:

Minho, Beira Alta, Douro Litoral, Baixo Alentejo and afterwards Trás-os-montes (mostly because of the Douro). I'm not a big fan of islands, even if the sights can be impressive.

Oh I can say which region I like the less: Algarve, I dislike beach.
North Algarve is like Baixo Alentejo with a misplaced border, so I don't count it :p
