This week I've been given the opportunity to work and live in the Ullapool area of Scotland for the next 6-12 months. I really like Scotland, so jumped at the chance and accepted the offer. There's also a very good chance that this could be a permanent position. I was wondering if anyone here is familiar with the area? I've already been warned to watch out for midges and to invest in plenty of wet weather clothing :D Any tips would be greatly appreciated!

Oh lucky you, you'll enjoy it. For the midges use Avon Skin so soft and they'll leave you. It's sold widely in the Highlands. The wee buggers are worst in the evening.

You can get the ferry from Ullapool to Lewis & Harris also which I recommend.

Regarding wet weather. The highlands is completely full of micro climates. When the weather comes out the places is fantastic.

It's nice up there...prices tend to be a little higher, but I do recommend a ferry to Stornoway or Harris. Dibhearsain!!
