Rachel

So after Loki posed the question caffeine how do you get yours? i thought it quite incomplete without the food that goes with it

so here it is folks what do you eat for breakfast ?

options being :
1.) Pancakes
2.) French Toast
3.)Cereal
4.) Eggs in any format
5.) Crepes
6.) Pastries ( could include : muffins, danishes, small hand held items that can be eaten on the go.)
7.) Bagels
8.) other ?

Pastries definetely. Well first I drink a strong coffee or even two when waking up is tough. Then I take orange juice.

So croissants or pains au chocolats makes it up for me for a good breakfast.

Though, the last time I went to England which was probably more than 15 years ago. I took eggs, beans, ham and sausages, typical British and it didn't bothered me at the time. I try to put up with local customs when I travel.

I usually eat ymer (cultured/fermented milk) and rugbrød (rye bread) with cheese.

I'm pretty sure most people outside of Denmark haven't heard of these food products so I'll give you some pictures.

whats muesli ?

Muesli (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Muesli), in Estonian we call it "müsli"

Health benefits of muesli:

All the main ingredients of muesli are considered important elements of a healthy diet:

* A diet rich in fresh fruits and vegetables has been shown to significantly reduce the risk of cancer and other age-related diseases, and a serving of muesli can contain one or two servings of fresh fruit.
* Oat products have been shown to help lower high blood cholesterol concentration (hypercholesterolemia) and thereby reduce the risk of arteriosclerosis.
* Products made from whole oat and wheat grains are rich in fibre and essential trace elements.
* Some types of nuts (especially walnuts) are rich in omega-3 fatty acids, which are associated with many health benefits, including the development of the nervous system.
* Milk products, often served with muesli, are a rich source of calcium and protein.
* The fruits that are in Muesli, as well as the oats are a source of fiber as well.

The low glycemic index of muesli without added sugar or honey helps with diabetes control.

While Muesli can be a vegan or vegetarian dish, it is not a raw food dish if the rolled oats are heated or steamed or "processed" in some fashion, but it is if traditional, old-fashioned, non-steamed, non-heated, just-rolled oats are used.

I usually eat after 12 am, since I'm not used to have breakfast. Only 250 ml of milk and coffee/cocoa is enough. But now I must take pills, so eat some fruits, mainly apples.

Hey Loki,

That is actually a piece of steak I cooked myself yesterday. Then we went on a road trip to to one of our buddies. I was drunk. So I put it in a bag and took it with me. I was hungry. I didn't eat it and it set out in the van all night. Wel, she was in there cooking breakfast so I went and got it and threw it in a little skillet..

..that is it's story

I usually eat eggs in the form of an omelette which usually includes whichever cheese and vegetables available or over-easy on Thomas's English muffins. Sometimes I have a bowl of Cheerios or Rice-Krispies with either bananas, blueberries or strawberries, or peaches when they are in season. Sometimes I skip breakfast if I sleep in too late.

I like to make scrambled eggs with a bit of cheese thrown in, perhaps some fresh herbs as well; sausage is always a nice choice, but I've been known to have have some venison, if there's any around. I prefer grape juice over orange, but I'll have milk if we have any baked goods around (I love to make orange-cinnamon rolls on the weekend mornings). A good cup of tea always makes breakfast nice.

At the school where I teach, we'll have Friday morning breakfasts together, with one department cooking for the rest on a rotating basis. When it's our turn, I like to make either a Dutch kouboi ("cowboy") or Champagne Eggs.

I love omelets of many kinds. I like them with spinach and linguisa the best.
I also love biscuits and gravy.:)
I also love Tex-Mex type breakfasts with chorizo and huevos rancheros.

But I do not have the time or the ability to handle such grubstaking gutbombs everyday.
I usually just drink coffee and have some oatmeal and yogurt.:coffee:

Brynhild

I normally have Muesli and yoghurt, or if I don't have time for that I will grab a banana. Coffee is an absolute must! French toast is something we have now and then, mainly on weekends.

I love all of the above, but I would also include a fry-up (English Breakfast). As for what I reckon is good bacon, I eat Aussie thanks. I might run the risk of Mad Pork Disease! :P

No because bacon strips are not a strictly American phenomenon. What we call bacon in Canada refers to bacon strips as well, and its definintely something a lot of people around here eat for breakfast. What you Americans call "Canadian bacon" is simply what we call back bacon and as far as I know nothing particularly Canadian about it, as I'm sure its been around for a while and is also eaten in other nations.

As for me, my 3 favourite breakfast foods are musli cereal, omelets (I make them with onions, peppers, mushrooms, cheese and various herbs and usually make a sandwich out of it), and rye bread with cheese and cold cuts. Though I also really like baked beans for breakfast too:thumb001:

Havregrøt

http://krydder.org/mat/2008/01/grot210108.gif

Havre is oat in english I think.

Scandinavia

A traditional Scandinavian breakfast commonly includes warm porridge made of boiled rolled oats, boiled with water and a pinch of salt and sometimes raisins. It is typically served with milk topped with lingonberry jam, cloudberry jam, or apple sauce, although sometimes it is served with honey or butter.

And usually I eat dark bread with fish on it. Scrambled eggs with smoked salmon or fenalår is great with some bread too, yum! And also I drink cold milk ofcourse:)

:) You should. If you would enjoy things like above and fried foods in general ;)

Last night I made home made chicken strips, I'm not a big chicken eater but I make them mostly for Lyfing, the kids like them too. Usually I get the larger chicken breasts and Lyfing cuts them up into strips, and sometimes I buy the breasts that are already strips. The chicken I had last night though was really good, it was from Wal Mart :D it was cut into strips but they were wide and the chicken was cut thin. It was really pretty actually. :D

All I do to cook them is fill a skillet with cooking oil, turn it to medium high and let it warm well before I add the chicken. Wash the chicken well and keep it wet, I poor flour onto a plate along with seasoning salt, that way the seasoning mixes with the flour and sticks to the chicken too. Just lay the chicken on the plate of flour cover both sides good. No egg needed, just wet chicken and flour and whatever spices you like. I use tongs to put the chicken in and then cover with a lid. Turn when the side is brown and crispy. And let the other side get brown and crispy and there done! The chicken cooks fast that way, so don't let it get to brown or it will be tough. They are good to dip in sauce too. :) And, that would be really good with some fried taters! :D

You probably can cook, if you really want. Its in your blood ;) You have to be passionate about it and relaxed. It is a wonderful stress relief. You have to also Own the kitchen, the utensils and the stove. :) If you know what I mean. ;) You don't want it to have control, or things will burn down, but if you have control everything should be just fine. Plus, your missing out on life by eating microwave and eating out only. :D

Maybe so ;) I wouldn't know, I went from right out of High School to being a Mother. :) But, what you could do is when you find time to cook, cook. And, that way, when you have a family one day ( if thats your thing ) you can cook for them. You don't want to be one of the women, that the man has to say " I love Her but she can't cook .." :p

They are different types of bacon. Regular bacon, which is neither Canadian nor American, is just ordinary bacon. There is back bacon, peameal bacon and Canadian bacon (or Canadian back bacon), all meaning slightly different (or not!) things. Here's a link (http://www.wisegeek.com/what-is-canadian-bacon.htm). :)
