The policeman who laid the charges said last night he was disgusted at what had happened and he believed there was no justification for abandoning the case.
He said he suspected the matter may have been dumped because those charged after the incident at Flemington one year ago were of north African descent.
Senior police last night did not indicate that the prosecutions were dropped because of a lack of evidence.
"There are a number of pro-active projects in place at the moment which are aimed at improving relations between some youths in the Flemington area and the police, to increase social responsibility and awareness."
This last quote is PC doublespeak for special govt programs to try and teach primitive savages how to behave in a advanced society they cannot comprehend. These such programs aren't just letting criminals off the hook, like in this case but costing taxpayers bigtime running into millions of dollars.
The Victorian Police Minister backed up all of this in a radio interview aswell.
Now contrast this story to this next story where nothing has even happened yet and everything the media and Police say is only based on heresay.

POLICE will use roadblocks, mounted coast patrols and fines for swearing to protect Melbourne beaches from a Cronulla-style anti-immigrant gang.
Inspector Neil Patterson, of Moorabbin police, said: "There's one group in particular that has indicated they intend to hold parties on beach locations.
"The message is if you're coming to the beach areas . . . to drink or cause problems, we're going to be there ready to target you."
Ah PC Mr Plod may be lacking everywhere else, but is on the ball here and already telling young white Aussies what they can expect.
