Premier Campbell Newman has escaped serious injury after his official car was involved in an accident.

Mr Newman was travelling to a Local Government Association of Queensland (LGAQ) summit on the Sunshine Coast when his Holden Statesman was involved in the collision.

Onlookers say a vehicle allegedly failed to stop at an intersection on the corner of Nojoor Road and Ocean Drive at Twin Waters, and ploughed into the passenger side of the official vehicle.

Mr Newman, his police guard and media officer were forced to call another car to take them to the summit, where the premier went on to give the key address.

He was said to be shaken but not injured, and a statement from his office said he would have a medical examination on returning to Brisbane.

A ambulance service spokeswoman said one person at the scene had minor injuries but declined to be taken to hospital.

LGAQ executive director Greg Hallam said the premier's car got 'one hell of a whack'.

'Just to show you what a tough nut he really is, he had a major accident on the way up,' Mr Hallam said.

'A car broadsided him, he's shown me the photos.'

Photos show the car's front and rear passenger doors crumpled from the impact, the side mirror broken and damage to the underside of the front passenger tyre.

Police said the woman who was driving the other car appeared to have gone through a give way sign.

She's been taken to hospital with minor back and neck injuries, and is yet to be formally interviewed.

Inspector John Lewis said the premier, his team, and the woman had been very lucky.

'We are very, very fortunate I think that the injuries are what they are,' he told reporters.
