Greece will try to be a step ahead of Macedonia in providing solutions in the negotiation process on the name issue with arguments that the name dispute affects security. This is what Macedonian experts commented on Greek publications in newspapers, according to which Skopje will ask for Macedonia to join the UN under its constitutional name, Macedonian Dnevnik daily writes today.

According to Greek media Macedonia had three scenarios – to seek UN membership under its constitutional name, to open a new case before the International Court of Justice and to reject the Interim Agreement. According to Greek diplomats most likely was the first scenario. According Bosko Stankowski, Doctor of International Law at Cambridge University Athens will try to be a step ahead of Skopje.

"Greece will try to stop any initiative in the UN, explaining that the name dispute has implications for security and as such can not be considered by the General Assembly. It is possible for Greece to give some initiative in the negotiations and to try to present itself as a constructive party," Stankowski said.
