PRINCETON, NJ -- Thus far in 2009, 40% of Americans interviewed in national Gallup Poll surveys describe their political views as conservative, 35% as moderate, and 21% as liberal. This represents a slight increase for conservatism in the U.S. since 2008, returning it to a level last seen in 2004. The 21% calling themselves liberal is in line with findings throughout this decade, but is up from the 1990s.

This means little to nothing.

Almost everyone on the U.S. political spectrum believes in Capitalist-Liberal-Democracy. The minor differences in belief that allegedly "separate" conservative from progressive from moderate are pretty much irrelevant on a broad-level analysis or when thinking on the scale of decades and centuries.

The stranglehold that Capitalist-Liberal-Democracy has had on the sociopolitical discourse in the USA post-1945 is staggering. It's farr more complete control than CLD has had on the discourse in the USA's satellites in Western-Europe.

How total is the control? Almost all Americans think all sociopolitical-Weltanschauungen other than CLD range from "doomed-to-miserable-failure crackpot-ism" to "unmitigated and literally-inhuman capital-e Evil", and certainly no sane person would embrace them. "They (believers in non-CLD weltanschauungen) must be at least a little bit mentally-ill".
