CBC's The Hour: James Lovelock is an independent scientist, he works in a lab that used to be a barn in Cornwall, England. For years now, he's been sounding the alarm on climate change.

He says we can't undo the damage we've done and that by the end of this century many places on earth will be unliveable. If that weren't bad enough, most of the human race will be wiped out.

So, we shouldn't waste our time trying to reverse climate change. Instead, he says we should focus on finding ways to survive the inevitable ahead. He lays it all out in his new book The Vanishing Face of Gaia (http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/ASIN/0465015492/disinformation).

I'd never thought quite from his angle before, but having now been shown it it seems rather illogical to assume that we tiny humans have the power to set in motion the reversal of the climate change we contributed towards.

What do you think? Time to start scoping out real estate in Canada?

we contributed towards.the amount of energy produced by humans
is miniscule
compared to the solar-engine
that drives the climate.

the amount of energy produced by humans
is miniscule
compared to the variation in energy
(correlating to sun-spot cycles (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Solar_variation))
pumped in to the system by the sun.

I generally like Lovelock. I do not accept the Gaia hypothesis, nor his apocalyptic histrionics, but I've always admired his realism and desire to find working solutions rather than complain about the lack of perfect ones.

His support for nuclear power is a very good bridging point between eco-fascists and their opponents.
