Are You Smart Enough to Be German? (http://www1.spiegel.de/active/quiztool/fcgi/quiztool.fcgi?id=33093)

SPIEGEL ONLINE has compiled a quiz based on Germany's new citizenship test. If you think you know what "zero hour" means or have an inkling about what the North-Rhine Westphalian flag looks like, then don't be shy: Take the test (http://www1.spiegel.de/active/quiztool/fcgi/quiztool.fcgi?id=33093).

Euhm. If you make a mistake, it tells you to retry.

Then by the end, you get 33/33 points, no matter how many mistakes you actually made.

Is that on purpose to parody the test-taking by foreigners, or is that an oversight? Anyway, I had 3 mistakes, but I never studied Germany specifically, so answered them all from basic European history and politics classes and made some educated guesses like which classes in elementary school are voluntarily.

You scored 26 out of a possible 33 points.

Well done! You would have no problem getting a German passport.

How long until the Turkish mob will start selling the test's answers via SMS?

31 out of 33.

Well done! You would have no problem getting a German passport.

I got the Easter question wrong. Who knew Germans painted eggs too? I thought the German constitution was called Bundesgesetz, after all, everything else is called Bundes- this Bundes- that.

I laughed at question #1. Why can someone criticize the policies of the German government?

What!? Germans can freely criticize their government?! Surely only if they're Turks.

They should ask about one's ancestry and alligence instead of a few

I think all christians paint eggs, no matter it is not a christian tradition in its roots.
I got only few questions regarding such as "capital cities" and "flags" wrong, so I, as non living in Germany and not having any special interest, suppose this test to be quite easy. Anyway, I think most of the turks or immigrants, even those born in Germany, would find it harder.

This is not the original test, there are a lot more questions and of course this is only the theoretical part. You also have to prove that you can read German and express yourself in that language to a degree. In my opinion most who pass are not even halfway fluent, but technically this is true for lots of Germans as well, thanks to MTV, rap and game consoles.

After all it is only a piece of paper. An FRG club card. When the day of reckoning comes we are not going to ask for passports anyway. ;)

In the olden days it used to be something sought-after to acquire a German or British passport. Nowadays every Tom, Dick can Harry can get one.

Yep! I already have a British passport, so I guess I don't need a German one. ;)

They have an ugly EU-pink colour as well.

The last thing that I need is a German passport. I already have a Royal Flush and I don't need any more cards:

What did all your passports look like before these EU ones? Ours were bigger and black, with a little window for the name. Much nicer.

Oddly enough the little EU ones look pretty much like the old Soviet ones...

Our are the same like before EU, but I heard they are going to change them in few months - put chips with "biometric data" and similar crap.

We need that only for countries outside EU. For the rest only the ID cards are enough.
