"This he insists upon at large in this Third Book, and thinks it the
more probable, because the Story of Saxo, the Founder of the
Saxon Nation, agrees with it. He says all Authors, Crantzius ex-
cepted, agree. That the Saxons were some Remains of the Mace-
donian Army ; and that before they came into Germany, they
were called Macedonians ; for this he quotes the German Chronicle, printed at Mentz, in 1482. the Annals of Freezland, and
others."

There was once a phenomenon in western Europe to connect various Germanic tribes ancestry either with Troyans, ancient Greeks or Macedonians. These were just a romantic ideas and the medieval catholic scholars wrote several books about that. They probably did that because they were considering their true shamanic, druid, barbarian roots as shameful.

The most redicilous of all was the legend held by Catholics about the Trojan origin of Turks which became very popular in Turkey...

Some rulers tried to reinvent their lineage make it a little bit more ancient to gain extra credibility. The Macedonians pretty much died off to be replaced with Slavs.
