Does anyone know if the Varangian Guard (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Varangian_Guard) left any descendants in Turkey? Probably.

Ah yes it says: "By the late 13th century Varangians were mostly ethnically assimilated by Byzantines"

There is a quite low percentage of I1 in Turkey and I know really really rare exotic Nordid looking guys...

In Turkey, most known N.European influence is Galathian/Celt one. It's known they kept their identity until 10.th century (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Roussel_de_Bailleul) and one friend of my uncle, who is from Şereflikoçhisar looks Brünn+Alpine interestingly :o

The Varangians were the descendants of North sea people, probably today's Baltic. They came with the Viking invasions in Constantinople, were bribed and eventually stayed, working as military officers and as the Emperor's selected guardsmen. Must have been pretty huge people too.
