Konya was once capital of Seljuqs of Rum (Anatolia).

At their times Turks became sedentary people and dropped nomad ways. The culture developed in Konya not only spread to the rest of Anatolia but also to parts of Balkans, Levant and Caucasia as Ottomans inherited this and spread after further developments. When people ask about origins of Turkish culture, Konya is maybe most important city to show.
