Bosnian, unfortunately your country has fallen into Arabic/Wahhabi nonsense :(

Turkey was already always celebrating kurban bayram a day before Arabs because we use astronomical observation for calculating the position of moon but Arabs refuses to use technology and trusts their naked eye for moon phases. They think like bajram starts 2 days later but it`s scientifically proven that it starts tomorrow morning.

Unfortunately Bosnia quit aligning with Turkey and decided to go with the Arabs this year. I suppose this is the sign of growing Wahhabi influence in Balkans :picard1:

Yes, the ones in Saudi Arabia will celebrate 2 days laters but we are not in there atm. We will celebrate tomorrow in Turkey.

Arabs are wrong about this just like they are wrong in many other things. Anyone with a telescope can see that the moon phase gets completed tomorrow, not the day afterwards.

See Albania,Macedonia,Turkey celebrate thursday and Kosovo friday

why the difference?
The difference is caused by the conversion of islamic moon calendar to Gregorian sun based calendar and the completion of the moon phase.

Arabs calculates it wrong !!!

The countries who aligns themselves with them are clearly under Wahhabi influence, thats certain.

Turkey always celebrated kurban bayram a day before Arabs. We told them that they are wrong but Arabs never listened us and they insist celebrating it a day after from us.

In Kurban Bajram i see vegans whining over and over in real life and in several TV channels and then i suggest them to go and eat a bull's testicles. I generally prefer liver kebab but bull's testicles are nice for bbq btw. Spoil the blood and enjoy the Bajram.

Then it must be decided by science, by looking at the moon with a telescope.

I dont know Bosnia but Turkey wont align itself by trusting the naked eye observation of a Bedouin from the Arabian desert.

So....Who is going to slaughter a sheep on friday?

I've heard that a lot of albanians in Kosovo reconvert into catholicism, thats what all albanians should do, back in their roots :)
What makes catholicism as your original faith?

The Pope converted some of you as catholics and the patriarch did same thing for orthodoxy and finally some became muslim during Otoman era. Neither of these beliefs was your roots at all.

We got Orthodox roots mainly rather than Catholic.

Scanderbeg converts into catholic and dies like that, anyway I think he used that just for politics, and I guess we were more catholics than orthodoxs before the turks came!
There was a lot of orthodox Albanians, more than the number of catholics and even equal numbers to muslim ones but majority of them became Greeks and they think like they are descendants of Sophocles nowadays. Thats why you think like catholicism was favored more than orthodoxy for Albanians but this wasn't the case.

Your informations are wrong. When the Christian church split in 1054 between the East and Rome, the region of southern Albania retained its ties to Constantinople while the north reverted to the jurisdiction of Rome.
Albania once numbered eighteen episcopal Sees, some of them having uninterrupted activity from the dawn of the Catholicism until today. The country was the last Roman Catholic bridgehead in the Balkans.
Orthodox historically constituted 20% of the population of Albania.

Tthe country was the last Roman Catholic bridgehead in the Balkans. Thats why we were forced to convert into islam...

Yeah, this is not what happened at all.

And she is bragging about being a proxy group in Balkans for Vatican, thats really absurd :)

Anyway, we are sure about one thing;
Today`s central to southern Greece was full with orthodox Albanians and all of them hellenized, 100.000s of them. They were surely more populated than Catholic Albanians.

logically it goes back after 1052 when the christianity split into catholicism and orthodoxism, so the north part was under the western church and the south part under the east church, I hope u have seen that border in the map.

Instead just saying 'I dont think this is what happened' bring than your argument if u have one?!

most of scholars support that it was the most important element of our convertion, and is logically based, cuz west was in war with otomans, so should the otomans be comfortable with this bridgehead inside the empire? with all that bad experience with Scanderbeg? of course not :)

those catholics who didnt want to convert into islam were allowed to choose between islam and orthodoxy, so a lot of Catholics converted into orthodoxy and than got assimilated like in Kosovo, Montenegro and Greece! I think this need special thread.

"The appeal of islam to the soldierly albanian" i dont agree at all with this conclusion so im going to respond u here, I read moslty of the text and it explains mostly the situation in 18 century Albania. I agree with some points there about certain albanian groups who wanted to gain their individual achivments in the empire so they converted into islam.
My point is that albanian case as catholics was very different from other orthodoxs nations in Balkans, and they were forced to convert in different ways, thats why a lot of Arbereshes left Albania for Italy, cuz they didnt want to convert into islam. Accepting the idea that albanians voluntary converted into islam with out any kind of pressure is very silly!
Scanderbeg converts into Catholicism till the end of his life, maybe it was political, cuz of his strategy with the west!

All countries around us are orthodox, as were most of the Albanians. Catholics were a minority, so there was nothing special about our religion from Turk's point of view.

The reason why our ancestors converted to Islam was because they were smart. Instead of "owning" a religion, they decided to own wealth. That's it.

Not really. Alot were forced into converting into Islam. There are numerous of witness accounts of Turks blazing christian villages to make an example of. But religion is just religion. I'd rather have people convert instead of getting their heads chopped off for not converting.

Not to mention Albanians didn't own any wealth at all, poverty was rampant..

Numerous witness accounts of forced conversion doesn't explain the fact that a large percent of Albanians converted, but didn't happened the same thing with other countries. What makes you think that Turks treated us differently?

About the wealth/poverty... well I didn't live back then, but in the descriptions of several travelers Albanians were armed to teeth with guns adorned with golds & silver. There are also pictures that portray them this way.

Bajram bajric to you all :)

I had no idea Bajram meant Eid, I thought everyone uses the latter word..Today is the first day for us, although there is not much of a celebratory atmosphere. :( Happy Eid!

Never heard about "eid" in Bosnia :)

It's the original Arabic word for it. :) I honestly did not know there were so many other name variations for it, I assumed it was a universally used word.

I saw one of my school mates walk in today wearing what looked like a well-decorated djellaba - underneath it he seemed to be wearing a formal shirt and trousers. It's not a custom here (this is not an Islamic country - naturally) but he is an immigrant so we were making jokes about it: "... and there is the padre. Who is going to need his last rites ?"

Haha! There is one type of dress the guys wear, which reminds me of the old sleeping suits people used to go to sleep in.

feeding the poor?! lol thats the biggest illusion and Im against that idea, cuz that social care most go through institutons. It was ok in the past when people didnt have the idea about state and government.

These are semitic religions and semitic languages. Ofc the Arabic word has been adopted from Hebrew. I gave the most extreme example of that before. The word "Allah" is originally an Aramaic word and Jesus himself was calling God as Allah because he was speaking Aramaic. Then Jews adopted that word and used it as Eloah and finally Arabs as Allah.

I hope your theology study in Israel opens your eyes, so you can realize that all three semitic religions of judaism, christianity and islam are same in most areas.

I´ve been here for a bit more than a week now. I´ll stay for two years and do my master´s degree in theology, specialization in New Testament and Early Christianity. It´s an interesting city and not bad at all. It´s pretty relaxed actually. I met some interesting people.
There are just some Arab neighbourhoods one should avoid, when there´s the potential of being mistaken as Jew or maybe American. But apart from that it is pretty normal.

Well, I speak Hebrew/English and people take me for a local usually.

Yesterday I was invited to a party where there were some Israeli Jews and we made a round where everyone introduced himself and said where he´s from, but their reaction was positive. One guy was actually learning German and wanted to speak German with me.
I would guess that the reactions are mostly neutral, sometimes positive, and rarely negative.

Honey if you ever experienced the Balkanian "social care" you would never write that BS.

In Albania (and Kosovo) most public kitchens operate only thanks to donations (which spike during Ramadan and Bajram) which constitute nearly half of their budget.
