Embraer S.A. (Empresa Brasileira de Aeronáutica) is a Brazilian aerospace conglomerate that produces high-technology commercial, military, and executive aircraft and provides aeronautical services.
Headquartered in São José dos Campos, in the countryside of the state of São Paulo, Embraer is the third-largest commercial aircraft manufacturer in the world.
Created on August 19, 1969, Embraer, was a mixed capital company under government control. With the support of the Brazilian Government, the Company transformed science and technology into engineering and industrial capability with no comparatives in Latin America.
Embraer began a privatization process alongside many other state-controlled companies during the government of Fernando Henrique Cardoso. This privatization effort saw Embraer sold on December 7, 1994, and helped it avoid a looming bankruptcy, due to the crisis the country faced. The company continued to win government contracts.
