England has quite a few horse breeds. Some are fairly recent creations, others go back a few hundred years whereas some ponies are very ancient and primitive.

Cleveland Bay (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cleveland_Bay)

http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/c/cd/Brewster_park_drag_1887.jpg

This breed goes back a few centuries and is rather graceful. It is good for driving or jumping.

Dales Pony (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dales_pony)

http://www.theequinest.com/images/dales-pony-3.jpg

This is a breed of pony native to the Yorkshire Dales. It is closely related to the Fell Pony from Neighbouring Cumbria, but considered more heavily built.
Most people say the ancestors of the Fell and Dales ponies are horses imported by the Romans crossed with prehistoric, native ponies.

Dartmoor Pony: (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dartmoor_Pony)

http://www.englishriviera.co.uk/dbimgs/Dartmoor-Ponies.jpg

These roam areas of Dartmoor (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dartmoor) in a semi-wild state (they are caught once or twice a year to cull or sell excess population and check their health).
They date back to the Bronze Age, but have had other ponies pollute their bloodline since. Dartmoor had a better climate in the Bronze Age, but the climate declined and many of the settlements were abandoned (including that one in the picture). The ponies were just sort of left there.
Miners used them and "improved" them by adding other pony breeds to the bloodlines and turned them out on the moors when they weren't needed (previously a common practice across Europe - still happens in Iceland).

Exmoor Pony (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Exmoor_pony)

http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/d/dd/Exmoors_on_Exmoor.jpg

Related to Dartmoor ponies, but with a purer bloodline. Genetically similar to the Tarpan (extinct Eurasian wild horse) in mtDNA, but most horses breeds share similar Y-DNA (except a few breeds from China).
Like the Dartmoors, they are left to roam Exmoor. (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Exmoor)

Fell Pony (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fell_pony)

http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/2/25/Fell_pony.jpg

http://www.keswickfilmclub.org/kff/images/ospreys/kff12/films/pony1.jpg

Related to Dales, these are considered a different breed. They come from the Lake District and are a bit lighter in build than the Dales pony.

I'll post some more latter. These just happen to be mostly mountain ponies because I did it in alphabetical order.
We have breeds of almost everything - cats, dogs, all livestock, canaries, fish, etc...

England has quite a few horse breeds.

Fine English understatement. :thumb001:

The Thoroughbred, the fastest of all horse breeds, was created in England. So was the largest, the mighty Shire

A few more...

New Forest Pony (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/New_Forest_pony)

http://i.telegraph.co.uk/multimedia/archive/01448/pnew1_1448719c.jpg

http://www.wildaboutbritain.co.uk/pictures/data/22/medium/Galloping-Horses.jpg

These live semi-wild in the New Forest and are thought to descend from horses brought across with the Normans. The New Forest was designated as a royal hunting ground and the wildlife inside protected. The commoners had (and retain) rights to keep New Forest ponies in the forest and they're rounded up once a year to sell a few off (to control numbers) and check their health.

Suffolk Punch (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Suffolk_Punch)

http://www.hertsshow.com/imagelibrary/McMullen-Suffolk-punch-2009%20-%20670.jpg

http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/d/d6/Flintham_Ploughing_Match%2C_Newton_-_geograph.org.uk_-_570963.jpg

A working horse breed like the Shire, it was traditionally used in farming in East Anglia. It is thought to be descended from horse brought by the Vikings from Jutland and bears a resemblance to the Jutland horses (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jutland_horse#History) which pull the Carlsberg beer wagon:

http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/8/88/Carlsberg_horse_carriage_fl2.jpg

A few more breeds can be found here, although the list doesn't look complete:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Category:Horse_breeds_originating_in_England

Generally it's the English that breed horses in the UK and settled Irish travellers that train them. Most of the jockeys at the grand national seem to be wee little Irish guys speaking barely understandable versions of English.

Konik polski - Polish primitive horse
The Konik (Polish: konik polski or konik biłgorajski) or Polish primitive horse is a small horse, a kind of semiferal horse, originating in Poland. The Polish word konik (plural koniki) is the diminutive of koń, the Polish word for "horse" (sometimes confused with kuc, kucyk meaning "pony"). However, the name "konik" or "Polish konik" is used to refer to certain specific breeds. Koniks show many primitive markings, including a dun coat and dorsal stripe.

Physical characteristics
Height at the withers: 134 centimetres (53 in)
Chest circumference: 168 centimetres (66 in)
The breed is short in height, with a strong and stocky build, light head with a straight profile, the neck emerges low out of the chest. The Konik has a deep chest, a thick mane, and the hair coat is blue dun, though often colloquially called "mouse-gray".

Prevalence in Poland
Private breeders: 310 females, 90 males
State studs: 120 females, 50 males

Sarcidano Horse

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sarcidano_horse

It's considered one of the most ancient european horse's breeds. It has a odd number of teeth like happened in the primitive horses, and it doesn't need to be shod, too.

OMG I love horses. I was obsessed with them throughout my entire childhood/ youth. I don't know of any that are necessarily native to Florida, unless maybe the painted Mustangs that were brought over from Spanish galleons during the colonial times and naturalized. There is a breed called Tennessee Walker that I'm assuming originated in Tennessee.

The ones I rode were Thoroughbred, Quarter horse, Arabian, Appaloosa, etc. Those are the standard ones you find around here. I did not like Arabians... Thoroughbreds were too big... my favorites were Appys, Quarters and Mustangs.
