YPJ means Women's Protection Units and is the female version of YPG, the People's Protection Units.

Zrena was the first woman who led the army of the Median Empire.[1] She was the daughter of one of the most important Pir, Shailar. She studied Philosophy and Geometry and practiced with her bow and arrow. She was much more like her father in thinking and fighting. She followed in her father’s footsteps and became a Mariya.[2] After her father's death, she led the army successfully with the rest of the Mariyas. Her words encouraged the warriors (Sarbaz) in the war, one of the important quotes remaining until this generation to Sarbaz is "If the light shines behind me I could face the darkness even the light comes from a small candle". She never turned around while she was at the battle to know whether the rest of the army was with her or not. She asked Piran Congress to burn the left breast of the girls in their earlier age while she noticed that the Mariyas were struggling with their bow and arrow, but Piran Congress refused her request because they considered that as an anti-humanitarian act, although they knew from Magi’s prediction that the Median Empire would collapse one day.
The following of her quote were recorded in the manuscript which advised warriors:
In what do you fear! You are part of the nature whether you alive or die.
Do not let your feet to be proud while your sword defeated the enemies.
Do not fight for your personal benefit as sunlight gave your life.

I bet you many of them would gladly throw away those weapons and leave the hard lifestyle they have if offered a nice peaceful life with the love of a man and the comfort and sefeness of a real home.

Why do you ask? Are you ashamed that your glorious soldiers of Allah are being beaten by women?

For every 3 males in YPG ranks, there is 1 female.

Possibly, but they do not want to be treated as if they have a lower place in society. They do not agree with the "traditional" household, where women stay at home looking after their children while the men work. By traditional I mean Western traditional, in real Kurdish tradition women are seen as equal. Unfortunately due to Islam that is changing for many Kurdish families. I am descended from a clan where a woman once was our leader. I am just glad that a group like YPG is making sure that gender equality is secured in Rojava.

Kurdish Women Turning Kobani into a Living 'Hell' for Islamic State

Fighters for the all-women YPJ militia in northern Syria say they are fighting “a revolution of woman.”

Hundreds of Kurds gathered in a Turkish border town on Tuesday for the funerals of four women killed fighting the Islamic State (I.S.) group, while across the border a Kurdish female militia is playing a leading role in defending Kobani.

Reuters has reported the four coffins that were lowered into the ground in the town of Suruc contained the bodies of fighters from the Kurdish Women's Protection Units (YPJ) – the female brigade of the leftist YPG militia.

“We will avenge … those women who were sold as slaves in the markets of the ISIS (I.S.),” the YPJ said in a statement last Wednesday.

The YPG itself is the armed wing of a Kurdish coalition that has taken defacto control over a sizable chunk of Syria's predominantly Kurdish north.

According to terror research group TRAC, as much as 35 percent of Kurdish troops in Syria's north are women.

Estimates from various other monitors of the number of Kurdish women fighting in Syria run as high as 10,000.

“We turned the first places they entered – the southern tip of the city and the 48th avenue – into a hell. And from now on Kobani will continue to be hell for them."

According to the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights (SOHR), Kurdish defenders in the besieged town of Kobani are being co-led by a 40 year old Kurdish woman from the Afrin region of Aleppo province. “Mayssa Abdo, known by the nom-de-guerre of Narin Afrin, is commanding the YPG in Kobane along with Mahmud Barkhodan,” SOHR's head Rami Abdel Rahman told AFP on Sunday.

Abdo herself has stated, “a great resistance is taking place in Kobani.” “We can say that the Kobani resistance is in particular a women’s resistance,” she told Kurdish news outlet, The Rojava Report.

“In order to enter Kobani the ISIS (I.S.) gangs will have to pass over our corpses,” Abdo said.

She explained that I.S. is relying on “heavy weapons” like tanks and artillery fire, but in the slim streets of Kobani YPG/YPJ fighters have fought back “with ambushes and traps, creative defense tactics and a sacrificial determination.”

“We turned the first places they entered – the southern tip of the city and the 48th avenue – into a hell. And from now on Kobani will continue to be hell for them,” she stated.

According to reports circulating among Kurdish media, in Kobani, YPJ troops have become vital in the battle against I.S.

"I see the Syrian revolution as not only a popular revolution of the people but also as a revolution of the woman."

Earlier this month SOHR reported one YPJ fighter killed more than 20 I.S. fighters when she charged their lines and blew herself up. The suicide bombing opened a gap for YPG fighters to momentarily push I.S. back, according to SOHR.

Another woman under Abdo's command only known as Rehana has been claimed to have killed over 100 I.S. fighters, according to the International

You shoudn't really take that comment so serious mate I was kind of being sarcastic talking as a macho man would do. We have some saids that talk about our Macho Way of being such as: Women should be as my shoot gun: Loaded and in the kitchen.... making a comparison loaded: Pregnant. In the kitchen:preparing our meals.

This not reflects exactly my way of thinking it is just sarcasm, nonetheless and after all most of societies all over the globe still keep some degree of tradition and machism within tthemselves.
