Big Fat Gypsy Weddings is a British documentary series broadcast on Channel 4, that explores the lives and traditions of several Irish Traveller families as they prepare to unite one of their number in marriage. The series also featured Romanichal (British Gypsies) in several episodes, and has been criticised for not accurately representing England’s Roma and Travelling community. It was first broadcast in February 2010 as a one-off documentary called My Big Fat Gypsy Wedding, filmed as part of the Cutting Edge series and voted Most Groundbreaking Show in the Cultural Diversity Awards 2010[1] . A series of 5 episodes were later commissioned, and the series first aired in January 2011. A second series began airing in February 2012.
In North America, the show airs on TLC under the title My Big Fat Gypsy Wedding, with the original narration by Barbara Flynn replaced by Ellen K.,while the TLC network started airing a spinoff featuring American Roma called My Big Fat American Gypsy Wedding.

About 90% of the English gypsy wedding show is Irish travellers, God love anyone that isn't from this part of the world trying to keep up with all the terms: gypsy, pikey, traveller, knacker etc :D

I honestly could not bear to watch it. It was absolutely cringeworthy, with cheesy 'fairground'-style organ music as a soundtrack. It made everything look horribly tacky, when the individuals in the programme were just ordinary decent people with a bit of a taste for 'flash'.

A most unfortunate expose with too much conspicuous consumption.

It was like a combination of 'Gypsies, Tramps and Thieves' by Cher and 'My Sweet Sixteen' from MTV.

Irish Travellers were referred to as Gypsies, when they are not, which was irritating in extremis.

It was horribly voyeuristic, and sensationalist and I was really really offended by the stereotyping, but, of course, these 'scripted reality' shows do this to everyone, from 'The Only Way Is Essex' and 'Made in Chelsea' to 'Keeping Up With the Kartrashians', and 'Jersey Shore'.

It was a very irresponsible programme!

Fuck Channel 4.

I am going to buy into the concept of GOG with respect to Bulgaria and Romania.

GOG is such a powerful Gypsoid entity that it crushed communism in those two states, operating as a parallel government, firstly by undermining communist internationalism, then by varying degrees of subtle and underhand fuxation, effectively creating a new state (and pop-folk dance craze) called Rromania.

Not many people know this, but Elena Ceaucescu, the eminent scientist, whom discovered and produced "Co-2", a miracle compound, created by mixing hot air with special GOG powers, was a hidden GOG agent...

Like most agents of GOG, who appear to be very wealthy, except on paper, they built a large, slightly vulgar house:

See here how Elena Ceaucescu, GOG sayanim, (Agent Codoi) subtly undermines her husband as he gives his last, very tragic speech...

The Ceaucescu's on holiday, looking very much at home.

.............................................

Despite leaving grammar school at the age of 14, Ceauşescu graduated from the University of Bucharest with a PhD in polymer chemistry and top in a class of 100 women with the honor of summa cum laude. Her thesis has 162 pages, 32 tables, 40 figures and 440 references and describes the invention of a very valuable artificial material. Critics consider it unlikely that a textile worker — especially one whose formal schooling ended at 14 — would have been able to write a thesis in chemistry. After the Revolution of 1989, several scientists have claimed that Elena had forced them to write papers in her name. Claims have also arisen that the university gave her the honour of the doctorate solely because of her political position.

...

In summary, to quote from an article on plagiarism in the leading scientific journal Nature:

Elena Ceauşescu did not have a BSc, but the power of her husband Nicolae — Romania’s dictator until communism fell — still made sure that the University of Bucharest awarded her a PhD in chemistry. The contents of her many scientific papers were penned by others.

...

She was sometimes nicknamed "Codoi", referring to her alleged mispronunciation of the name of the chemical compound CO2 ("Co" being the C for carbon, O for oxygen, and "doi" being Romanian for "two"). She was mocked by many, including an official who called her by this nickname during her show trial. Contributing to the humorous effect, "codoi" is an actual word in Romanian, meaning "big tail".

(Just in case you were n00b)

I'm surprised those american gypsies still practice their culture, I bet after that generation they will lose their culture 100% and their kids will think they are italians from new jersey.

This one is truly fabulous. It looks like a wild Rajasthani palace in Jaipur:
