His parents are from Ghana. Untill now I've seen no proofs that Manuel Fernandes isn't a native Portuguese.

Meireles has more experience and has played in better teams. Fernandes has suffered a lot with injuries, but i would say that he is not worse than Meireles if fully fit. The only thing Meireles has better is shooting ability.. and over the years better physical condition also.
