I am a plumber, but i have more hair than Joe.
Actually my title is an industrial heating engineer, but the work my firm is currently quoting for is in the retail business, Tesco's and suchlike.
Boiler houses, plant rooms, are my speciality, as i am also a coded welder Gas/Arc. Also i am a registered gas installer.
This is true, i was earning more money in the 80s

Hehe that is quite alright, got an interview on the 30th hope I get the job, otherwise I'm afraid I'll have to start to collect welfare... yeah you heard me welfare... It is shameful I know, but rather I than Mohammad I've at least payed for the crap trough taxes just in case of something like this would happen. :P

Edit: But seriously I'm going mad... I've been without anything productive to do all summer, and it was fun for a week, and it is not like I can apply for more jobs, as I make weekly passes by the local shops, and check the unemployment agency etc etc.
Apart from that all I can do is exercise to stay in shape and sleep, but I mean I have way to much time on my hands... I exercise for 1h 30 mins per day I sleep for 7-8 hours, what should I do the rest of the day... Oh well I bet it will be better after summer.

Hey all;

I am a merchandiser in a "big box" home improvement store: set up and maintain displays, reset product bays, clean, make sure take-away literature is available, signage and pricing are correct...best of all, it's Monday - Friday 06:00 - 15:00. (I do get up at 04:30, though ,-)

I was in floor sales until a year ago June, boy am I glad I'm out of that part of the business.

I just finished my first year of technical school for Mechatronics (I got my Abitur a year earlier than the rest of my class because I'm a no-life loser nerd).
First two semesters cover a lot of common courses that almost all engineers do regardless of field, but I'm mostly interested in Mechanical Design.
In the meantime I like to pretend that I'm a Philip K. Dick character.

What I'm trying to do, I like 3d modeling. Business IT is not so bad but it has become boring.

And as far as I recall, you were doing great with 3D modelling.
Have faith in yourself and switch before you're stuck with something you won't be prolific at, or happy with (:

But I hope to soon change that for something more interesting. This job I only picked because I needed an income badly and the crisis killed the logistic sector in my region (and since I'm specialised in logistics ... yeah)

I just got out of a similar job, server assist/bus boy, basically the other bus boy's and I along with the expediters do all the servers work, while they just sit at the bar or stand in a powwow circle doing nothing.

They take order's that's about it, then the bus boy's get drinks and salads, the expediters take the main order out and such, then the bus boy's clean the tables.

Pretty much the only action the server's I worked with got was taking the initial order then collecting the tip, they had it soooooo hard, that's why they got to piss on my position and misplace their tips so I can lose my job, after all it's my responsibility as a bus boy, a glorified garbage man, to make sure the waiters and waitresses are competent enough to collect their bill and tip from their own tables, tables that they didn't even do anything for except say "hello what would you like?"

I have no respect for waiters and waitresses, they are lazy scum in my eye, and I refuse to become one. Servers that don't serve what a concept!

I am between jobs. I took a course to get TEFL certification, and I have up to 6 months to get my portfolio done to get the certificate, but I'm kind of stuck on it right now. The trainers are hardly available. I find designing this particular lesson plan to be soul-crushing, i.e. coming up with something for phonology for "wish structures" I mean, first there's the "I" and then there's the "wish"... What more can one write!?

I took this course because I thought it would be practical in this economy, but I don't see myself going off somewhere and designing lesson plans. Who knows? The problem with modern language instruction is how language is taught. No wonder people have a hard time learning languages, the way language is taught is completely impractical and designed to intimidate or just bore the student to death.

For example, why explain the concept of "first person pronoun", but not make it explicitly clear that "I" is what is meant?

If someone just told me "accusative" and "dative" just has to do with 'I give the book TO him' Or 'I have something FOR you' i.e. the words "for", "to", "under", "over", "near", "with" instead of inane convoluted terminology like "direct/indirect object" it would have made learning German one Hell of a lot easier. I hate how language is taught like a science. I hate these terms, "perfect past" (What the Hell is so "perfect" about it!? I know Latin perfectus means "complete" but why is this MORE complete than the "imperfect past" ?) I.e. What is more complete about "I have given him the book" than "I gave him the book" ? Just tell the student it has to do with using "have", anything more complicated is erroneous (except for a grammarian) and just plain STUPID!

Another example: In German, there is a distinction made between "I'm jumping IN the pool" i.e. jumping up and down while in a pool, and "I'm jumping in the pool" i.e. leaping into the pool from outside. If this was explained to a student as 'I'm jumping while inside the pool' and 'I'm jumping INTO the pool', the student would not be confused and would learn a lot faster. But NOOOOO, teachers have to prattle on about the difference being "direct/indirect objects." I HATE THAT! Reform Language Instruction Now!!!

I'm going to grad school eventually, I'm just confused about what to go into. Until then, I'd really like to work in a bookstore, but there aren't any positions available.

Perhaps the funniest story of my employment as a Heating engineer/industrial pipefitter welder, is when my company had a contract on the Isle of Mann, My boss called and asked if i could bring into the office all of my certificates and endentures, which was HVCA authenticated, so he could photo copy them and send back to the Isle of Mann goverment so they could process if i could work on the island.
The upshot of it all was that of all the documents that the I,O,M goverment would acknowledge was the Corgi gas card i had, so i was entitled to work on the island as .........gas fitter.
This was duly a measure that they implimented to stop an insurge of plumbers and heating engineers flooding the work place, which was quite right in my understanding.

My brother is third generation HVAC, followed in the footsteps of our dad and his. Luckily, for the current economic climate, he landed a job 3 years ago with a company that has been on contract to the university there in State College, Pennsylvania for over half a century School's always full, so there's plenty of work for him.

I'm muddling on, got a whopping 3.2% annual increase last pay period. Found out the district manager likes seeing me in the building ,-)

We have had a 3 year pay deal for the past 6 years with the HVCA, UK.
For the last 3 year pay deal our pay increased by 21.3 %
But the employers, the crafty buggers have implemented a sly no overtime policy, to which they have added trackers to all company vehicles, and non payment of OTA payments to work.
All in all i have less money in my paycheck, but i am doing the same work load.
Having been a union member since i came out of my time years ago, i have seen a big change in HVCA work practices.
Remember, i came out of my time when Margeret Thatcher came into power back in 1979........

Waiters and waitresses must have a very different job where you live. In my neck of the woods, a "greeter" (or whatever it's called) take you to your table. After that, the waiter/waitress does everything else. They get your drinks, take your order, bring your food and drinks, check back time and again to see if you need anything else, etc.

I will point out this, if you are interested in pursuing a career in art it is most likely best to get vocational training first then go to a general university rather than an art specific school, I made a mistake of going to an art specific school and spent thousands of dollars on regurgitated info I already knew, my vocational training was free and very thorough in my training.

As a result of going to an art school I was not able to transfer any credits to a more general university due to the lack of gen ed courses at the art school I went to.

If you do go to an art school, be careful and watch out for the credits and make sure they are transferable if you are not satisfied with the school, in a lot of cases these credits are not, at least in the U.S. I don't know about the UK to be honest.

Ahhh...student for me. I want to be an illustrator/artist in the future though. Hurray for being younger than everyone else here?

I remeber being 17 and really it is a click of the fingers and you are 30, another click and you are 40, and if you are really lucky you will aquire grey hair, be loved by a beautiful woman who will bear you many children, the children in turn will cost you many thousands of Dollars to educate and keep in the custom of which they have been brought up.
So from now until then, walk softly and carry a big stick, and use your years wisely until you aquire all of this.....:)

Here we have a simple job of cutting into, and welding a swept branch into a pipe.
http://i339.photobucket.com/albums/n449/ruffusruffcut/P051010_1429.jpg

Firstly i cut the shape out of the pipe, put a few runs of weld inside the pipe, allow to cool so it stresses,so when i weld it,it stresses back the other direction normalising the pipe.
http://i339.photobucket.com/albums/n449/ruffusruffcut/P051010_1430.jpg
Tacking up the swept branch fitting, you can see underneath the burnt paint from the prestressing.
http://i339.photobucket.com/albums/n449/ruffusruffcut/P051010_1439.jpg
Finished the weld, it looks ok.
http://i339.photobucket.com/albums/n449/ruffusruffcut/P051010_1455.jpg
Next job adding the bend onto it, making sure everything is square and level.
http://i339.photobucket.com/albums/n449/ruffusruffcut/P051010_1524.jpg
Then adding a bit of cosmetics, job done.

Sometimes i do make it look easy to the younger guys, but i reasure them i have been doing this a hell of a long time. :)

I used to be a man of ideas, too. But currently I make some money working for the Spanish state as computer analist-programmer, which means i do the analysis and the implementation too. Unfortunatelly (or fortunatelly as long as i dont get reassigned) my org is a highly centralized one and i'm not at its centre so i used to pass my worktime mainly unoccupied.

Don't worry about that: you're young enough to change to whatever you want...unfortunatelly at the expense of get off your dreams: when I was younger Id always think on becoming a writer but my everyday worklife, even with little work but constricting me on time and space, prevents me from being in the higher moods I need to get inspired. It's nasty. Although being a vocational programmer at spare time is another factor to consider in my failure.

LONG (23 years)-retired educator.

Until 1987,I had taught geology and sometimes astronomy at a State College which became a State University, for 28 years. Before that, I had worked as a materials technician for the Highway Department, taught geology for 3 years at a private college, and physics for a year in a Navy school, where I also taught German (to my fellow officers) for 6 weeks one summer.

However, I have been applying for jobs and meeting some managers to find work since I'm going to need some extra cash when I work on my Bachelor's Degree.

Until I get a proper job, self-employed as a trader on Ebay. This sounds lazy, but it involves hours of packaging each day, going to post-office etc., and then you have to be online for a while uploading all the stuff.
