Former priest Vidin Metropolitan bulgarian Orthodox Church (bOC), who converted to Islam, became a cause of contention between the head and the Chief Metropolitan muftiat bulgaria.
As the portal "Pravoslavie.by" citing Vesti.bg , from published online bOC letter on behalf of Archdiocese, headed by Metropolitan Dometianom Vidin, it became known that the Metropolitan refused to participate in the celebrations held on December 5, on the Muslim holiday - the Day Ashura.
The reason for refusal was the publication on the website of bulgaria Chief Mufti article regarding the conversion to Islam of the former Orthodox priest Vidin Metropolitan Atanas Mihailov, who took his name Abdullah. Previously, he graduated from the Sofia Orthodox seminary and studied for two years at the Theological Faculty of Sofia University. Article on behalf of Mufti ends with the phrase: "We pray to the Almighty, but guide us to the right path and will not let us be deceived".
In Vidin Metropolitan considered these words offensive to the Christian faith, because they suggest that every Christian is in deep misconceptions about their faith and worship.
Meanwhile, in the Main Muftiate apologized and changed the title. Headline "Priest embraced Islam" has become something like this: "Former priest converted to Islam." In Muftiate also stated that they had no intention to offend anyone, let alone oppose the Christian or any other community.
