Chemical castration to pass into law

The government has included provisions in a proposal titled the Draft Law on Reproductive Health and Child Abuse that make it possible to employ means of chemical castration for sex offenders who target minors.

The details of how chemical castration will be implemented will not be specified in the text, and will be left to regulations of the Ministry of Health. The latest version of the draft, which has been approved by Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, proposes “medical intervention for child abusers and convicts clinically diagnosed as pedophiles,” without going into detail.

The proposal was drafted through the cooperation of the ministries of health, justice, and family and social policy. Another important change in the new law is that it puts an end to the requirement to obtain an expert report from the Council of Forensic Medicine (ATK) in rape cases proving that the victim's psychology has been negatively affected by the sexual attack. The draft also seeks to increase the length of sentences for sexual offenders specified under Articles 102 and 103 of the Turkish Penal Code (TCK). The proposal sets heavier sentences for sexual crimes in cases where the victims are children or people with disabilities.

The draft includes other changes to current law unrelated to sex crimes. It increases the period of birth leave from 16 to 24 weeks. The cost of the extra eight weeks will be covered by the state, as a measure to prevent work places from discriminating against female employees.

The draft makes no changes to the legal period for abortions. Aborting a fetus according to the draft as well as in current legislation is legal until 10 weeks, and until 20 weeks in the case of rape victims. However, a provision gives medical professionals the right to try to talk a woman out of having an abortion. Doctors performing illegal abortions will face up to eight years in prison.

Although being a strong opponent of the ruling party, I think they now made sense. I'm in favour of this law. (although I do not find it enough, as I support public execution for pedophiles, but considering that death penalty has been abolished here...)

If you are an individual who is motivated to commit rape in the first place then you are doing it with the knowledge that you are going to be castrated then why not go ahead and kill the woman, and dispose of the remains.

Stop trivialising killing. Killing is at the zenith of human immorality and always will be; the harshest judgement is reserved for that crime.

These emotionally-driven responses to sexual crimes I've noticed come from a lot of people who have no concept of mental health issues and developmental issues which plague Western society (the amount of rapists and paedophiles who were raped and abused themselves is probably in the majority) and also think that anyone who claims to have experienced any sexual crime is justifiably infallible.
