Single malt scotch, right now and every night. Its funny because in europe for what i noticed not a lot of people drink this heavenly drink. The bartenders had to look really hard to find my drink in their collection. Lots of places didnt even have it.

I think it is more of a "British" drink. Continental Europe isn't so wild about whisky. There is a big whisky culture here and you'd love the varieties available in South African pubs. There is one in my town which specialises in single malts. The most popular ones are Lagavulin, Johnny Walker Blue, Clyneish, Balvenie, Ardbeg, Benriach, Bowmore, Caol Ila, Cragganmore, Mortlach, Glenfiddich, Obach, Glemorangie, Strathmill, Kilchoman, Laphroiag, Mannochmore, Talisker and Glenlivet.

Of course you will pay dearly for the privilege of enjoying one of these.

I always had to laugh at the pretentiousness of people drinking Johnny Walker Blue. They don't have a deeper understanding of the variety of whiskies, and they drink it more as a "status" thing even when there are other, better and more expensive whiskies. When you're in the pub they will announce very loudly (so that everyone can hear), "I'd like a Johnny Walker Blue!" They put enormous emphasis on the "blue". The real whisky connoisseurs just roll their eyes when they hear this kind of request.

I'm not a whisky drinker and I would never order one, but the one which appeals to me most is Caol Ila. I like the peaty smokiness.

I attended a whisky tasting evening a few years ago. They had a whisky "specialist" from on of the companies (can't remember which one) who came to give a lecture on single malt production. After the lecture there was the tasting and there was an enormous variety up for tasting. I joined the evening from an academic point of view because I'm not an alcohol drinker, but 99% of the other people who attended couldn't have given a damn about the lecture, they just wanted to drink!
