Beautiful, elegant creatures. Some species are a bit scary though. :eusa_shifty:

I like how they can almost turn their heads round. Somehow, they also seem to be very educated!

Nice thread. Owl has always awakened my interest. What remained in my head regarding the owls...

According to an Albanian superstition, if an owl sings at the roof of a house, within a short time (few days) someone from that house will die.

In mythology owl symbolize Athena/Minerva.

Romans thought that presence of owl keeps the evil away.

Also owl is one of the main symbols of the Masons.

The owl is actually a very old symbol of wisdom, even before the Greek goddess Athena, it was associated with Ishtar, the Babylonian goddess of war, love and fertility, and before that with the Sumerian goddess Inanna, whose name translates as Queen or Lady of Heaven, who was also the goddess of war, love and fertility.

The Burney Relief (also known as the Queen of the Night relief), a likely representation of either Ereshkigal or Ishtar
