See, the free market isn't perfect, but it certainly has been an effective means historical for countries to develop. No socialist nor communist country has developed through socialism nor communism. It was only when they created a free market (especially true in the case of China) that they started to grow economically. This is not to say social policies are bad, but I believe the basis of any economy should be capitalist and then there can be certain social policies implemented to tweak the system to work with their country: depending on the value and rarity of certain supplies to the market. A state never knows what's best for the people better than the people do, even if they say so.
