This video was made with some pictures from oldest Bosnia! The genre of music is sevdalinka (the national Bosnia music). I dedicate this video from all my bosnians friends! In special for Rizvanovic family!

U stambolu na Bosforu is superb.
Really liked it.

This is a traditional Bosnian song about a dying Ottoman sultan who disperses his harem to his loyal servants at the moment of his death and whose wife immediately falls dead upon hearing the tragic news of the sultan’s death.

Here’s a translation of the lyrics:
“In Istambul on the Bosphorus”
In Istanbul on the Bosphorus,
The pasha lies sick.
His soul is on the decline,
And yearns for the black earth.

Prayer for him is holy,
When from the minaret, the muezzin
Calls out:
Allah ilallah, salaam aleikum.

Since, my servants, you have
Faithfully served my harem,
Let each one of you take
At least seven wives.

A tear dropped from his eye
And he fell dead on the divan,
The old Muslim…
Allah ilallah, salaam aleikum.

When the pasha’s wife
Heard about this sad news,
That the pasha had moved
Onto the afterlife,

A tear dropped from her eye
And she fell dead on the divan,
The pasha’s beloved…
Allah ilallah, salaam aleikum.

The 'sevda' part in sevdalinka means 'love', right?

'U Stambolu Na Bosforu' sounds indeed very nice.

I think forum went down again, and Loki restored backup from yesterday afternoon. Posts from early morning dissappeared. :( But what to do.

I guess I like this one. My ancestor is one of subjects in the (longer full version) song. Janissary aristocracy (some even traceable to medieval like mine) drinking wine (and defying islamic rules about alcohol), being served by a girl.. Seems to be liked by all.:D

Twistedmind

I dont have clue why :) BTW it is written by Serbian poet Aleksa Šantić.

Hurrem sultana

Yes i know its also based on a true story.Emina and the guy he sings about were from Mostar

But she did not marry him,but an other man,and they got 4 kids, one of the grandkids had an interview in Avaz
