No tenia razones de irme tenia todo alla que tengo aquí, mi padre estaba solo en Miami Beach, Florida en aquel entonces y me pregunto si quería a vivir con el en su estudio ya que no vivíamos junto por mucho tiempo

Allí fui a la escuela secundaria y todo, y después me mude para este estado con mi madre ya que es mas barato aquí y mas oportunidades que Florida, me fui de casa de mi madre después de graduarme a vivir solo y ser libre.

Ya tengo mi vida echa aqui pero algún dia volveremos mi esposa y yo si es posible por lo menos de vacaciones, retiro o por un largo tiempo.

Ah ok, pensé que te habías ido porque la situación estaba mal. Como es R.D en cuanto a la calidad de vida?


Si algunos se van por eso pero lo mas pobres/ ineducados de todos comúnmente, por eso todas las escorias paran en Estados Unidos en ciudades y nos hacen ver "mal". Muchas que an vivio en el extranjero por largo tiempo se esta volviendo para atras ya que pueden comenzar su negocio con el dinero que an salvado por su trabajo, algunos se vienen a vivir con familiares (mas barato) ya que la situación en lugares como Europa no es como antes.

En cuanto a la clase media (que es 20-35% del pais) nada mal aunque bien caro si ganas an pesos Dominicanos, pero si traes dolares te da de sobra.. Todo es barato si tienes dolares.

La delincuencia como siempre, algunas areas mejor que antes en otras peores que antes. Pueblos pequeños son mas tranquilos y seguros, la gente se conoce y eso. Cada ciudad es bien violenta y mucho ruido, común..


Pero la calidad/ indice de vida a ido mejorando poco a poco.

Sim, aqui você pode ver quão rápido ele se expandiu nestes últimos 5-6 décadas mais então triplicar sua população então no 50 'S. Ela passou alargamento daquilo a que chamamos a zona colonial e também a "cidade velha". A expansão foi oeste, norte e leste da cidade.

Muitas pessoas vinham de baixo, nas zonas rurais, bem como para viver na cidade por mais dinheiro, portanto, o seu crescimento foi mais de um migratórios um pouco então natural. Os meus avós paternos onde originalmente da região norte do país, que vinham de uma área rural pequena fora de Moca (cidade) que tenham sido residentes não há muitas décadas se não poucos séculos.

Instalaram-se em uma parte da cidade na década de 70, que era pouco povoada, você pode ver que a região rosa gradual (1975), agora ele cresceu e parece completamente diferente, então, em seguida, de volta., muitos alojamento e actividades projectos bem como mais tráfego. É ainda maioritariamente residencial, e a sua casa (que o meu avô construiu com as mãos) ainda rodeada de muitos edifícios residencial e é uma das poucas casas em volta.

Correction: Majority Mulatto tr-racial.


People usually say the same thing, that they worry about Haiti being so close. Yes it is, but we never had issues with them as far as terror ism, or invading your home etc.

The only things they do is come and work to bring food and money back to their families. The worst it gets is when they want to burn our forests near the border for charcoal, steal farmer animals, or kill farmers for no reasons, sometimes in towns and cities do the same to people but less common.

Yes it is part of a larger sports complex (basketball and boxing games to be exact) that where used back in the 2003 Pan-american Olympics hosted there,

Sistema de defensa amurallado de la ciudad de Santo Domingo



La construcción del sistema de defensa amurallado de la ciudad, así como las grandes puertas de acceso, los fuertes y fortines que la defendían, se prolongó por doscientos años.

Hacia 1543 se dio inicio a la construcción de las murallas de defensa de la ciudad de Santo Domingo, incluida la fortaleza que consistió fundamentalmente en una torre del homenaje idéntica a las construidas en Europa. La parte occidental incluyó como protección fundamental este fuerte localizado a orillas del río, cercano a su desembocadura. Mas adelante se levantó una solida construcción conocida como Santa Bárbara o Polvorin, levantada con gruesos muros de más de un metro de espesor, en piedra de cantería. Este depósito para material bélico de un volumen sobrio y austero, situado en los terrenos adyacentes a la torre del Homenaje, tiene una sola decoración sobre el portal único, consistente en una hornacina de sección cuadrada que contiene la imagen de Santa Bárbara, patrona de los ejércitos. La puerta accede a un pasadizo que comunica indirectamente con el espacio único, cubierto por una bóveda de cañón corrido. Esta edificación fue levantada en el siglo XVIII junto con la monumental puerta de acceso al complejo, llamada de Carlos III.[...]

Ubicada en la calle Las Mercedes, entre Jose Reyes y Sanchez, en la Ciudad Colonial.


Su construcción se inició en la mitad del siglo XVl. Fue diseñada e iniciada por el notable maestro constructor Rodrigo de Liendo.

La iglesia monacal de la Merced, en unión de San Francisco y las edificaciones de los frailes dominicos, constituyen las tres iglesias de las órdenes conventuales que la corona española permitió trasladarse a América, para iniciar la evangelización del nuevo continente.

Estas órdenes construyeron los monumentales y magníficos conjuntos conventuales de la isla. A esto se sumaron las construcciones dedicadas a la rama femenina de dichas órdenes.

Sólo la catedral de Santo Domingo o la tardía aparición de la iglesia de San Ignacio de los jesuitas, igualaron o superaron en monumentalidad a los templos y conventos de las tres órdenes religiosas.

1. Rent a nice but affordable Air B N B, at around $40 bucks per day. There are ones that even have a view of the sea, for a decent price.
2. Rent a car (if you aren't afraid of insane driving).
3. Go go Colonial zone.
4. Few good malls - Agora, Sambil, Acropolis Center.
5. Visit the area of the Malecon (and at night a place there called, Plaza Juan Baron) good cheap foods and some rides.
6. Take a few ride son the city's metro system.
7. Other places to visit: Los 2 Ojos, Faro a Colon, The Zoo, and the Botanical Gardens.

A week and a half is enough.

Although I've driven for a while when I was in Brazil, which is likely as chaotic or even more than DR, I have to keep in mind Brazil isn't really a foreign country for me and I was usually driving around with cousins and/or friends. Don't drive if you go there. scandinavian airlines has direct flights to Miami from Stockholm and from Miami to Santo Domingo American Airlines has the best routes. Most traffic goes through Punta Cana probably 70% of all air traffic.

Doesn't matter the insurance. The police/lawyer/judge want Gringo cash or you don't get your passport back. La ciudad primada de América, primera ciudad americana otorgada un escudo, tercer ciudad de España y primera de América en ser sede de una Real Audiencia; la ciudad cabecera de la zona metropolitana mas poblada en el Caribe, Patrimonio de la Humanidad por la UNESCO, la mas excitante y variada vida nocturna en el Caribe; centro de cultura y enseñanza, Santo Domingo de Guzmán tiene un legado sin igual. En este hilo se mostrará esta ciudad, la capital de la República Dominicana, según como aparece en Google Street View, indudablemente la herramienta mas extensa que se ha hecho de la ciudad desde que fue fundada por Bartolomé Colón (hermano de Cristóbal) el 4 de agosto de 1496.

El centro del Imperio Español y la mas poderosa e influyente ciudad en América durante la primera mitad del siglo XVI con su alcance llegando a los mas extremos ricones de la norte, centro y sudamérica. En esa época Santo Domingo logró el mayor esplendor alcanzado con personas ilustres considerándola la ciudad mas hermosa del mundo, maravillados al llegar a su puerto y ver cosas que eran desconocidas en la Europa de entonces incluyendo calles rectas y esquinas de 90 grados, y otros elementos del dámetro romano aplicado por primera vez en Santo Domingo antes que en la misma España donde las ciudades eran todavía al estilo medieval. Fue también la ciudad que le dió origen al intento de invasión de Inglaterra por España con su Armada Invencible tras la invasión y el desastre ocasionado por el pirata inglés Francis Drake en 1586. Por esta ciudad existen los dominicanos de hoy ya que fue la que defendió su existencia como ciudad de habla española en la invasión del pirata inglés William Penn en 1655, quien derrotado en las afueras de Santo Domingo (hoy en una zona que es parte de la ciudad) se conservó la existencia de la colonia española y luego sería la República Dominicana. De nuevo es por ella que se garantiza una cez mas la existencia de los dominicanos tras Jean Jacques Dessalines amenazándola con su destrucción en la carta difamatoria antes de su "Campaña del Este" de 1805. Atacandola con tropas enemigas rodeando las murallasde la ciudad y sometiéndola a un sitio de aproximadamente un mes, sorprendiendo a todos en una noche el comienzo de su marcha de regreso a su país; pues, si bien hizo sus tropas hicieron un daño desastroso por todo el Cibao, nunca pebetró las puertas en las murallas de Santo Domingo, acto que de haber ocurrido hubiera puesto fin no solo a Santo Domingo como ciudad, sino a todos sus habitantes e indudablemente antepasados de muchos que luego crearían la República Dominicana y la identidad de todos los dominicanos de hoy.

Una ciudad que en la primera mitad del siglo XX se expande como nunca allende las murallas con la creación de zonas como Gazcue, Villa Francisca y Mejoramiento Social. Se construye el mas hermoso malecón que no tiene copia en ningún ciudad de América. Se llena de residencias de estilos Californianos, Art Deco, Modernismo de mitad de siglo... Se dota de edificaciones monumentales como el Palacio Nacional y el Palacio de Bellas Artes. Adquiere monumentos y obeliscos, parques de vanguardia, pulcritud en las arboladas calles de Gazcue, limpieza, orden, belleza por doquier... Un Jaragua y un El Embajador, un Banco de Reservas y una Ciudad Universitaria; eso y mucho mas logró Santo Domingo en esa época.

Depende para que la uses. En términos de turismo está mejor posicionada debido a la mayor cantidad de playas y costa, pero a nivel de recursos mineros y agrícolas nosotros somos mejores. Universidad Nacional Pedro Henríquez Ureña (UNPHU)
(6) Los Jardines

Otra de las universidades líderes de la República Dominicana es la Universidad Nacional Pedro Henríquez Ureña (UNPHU, pronunciado un-fu). Este es su recinto principal es nombrado Emigido Osvaldo Garrido Puello (E.O. Garrido Puello). Nació en 1893 en San Juan de la Maguana. Fue un reconocido intelectual, escritor y maestro. Además fue uno de los fundadores de la UNPHU y se mantuvo fiel a la institución educativa por el resto de su vida. Por ello amerita su nombre al campus principal. El 5 de agosto de 1982 se produjo su muerte.

Pedro Henríquez Ureña nació el 29 de junio de 1884 en Santo Domingo. Hijo de dos figuras prominentes de la República Dominicana, Francisco Henríquez y Carvajal, y Salomé Ureña. Conoció en persona a Eugenio María de Hostos. Fue un intelectual, filósofo y escritor. Vivió en Estados Unidos, México y Argentina, este último el país donde viviría por el resto de su vida. Fue un gran colaborador en el Instituto de Filología en la Universidad de Buenos Aires. Fue un gran constructor y modelado del universo cultural argentino.

Parque de San Carlos de Tenerife
(8) San Carlos de Tenerife

Lo que fue la Plaza Mayor de San Carlos de Tenerife sin ningún tipo de decoración, árboles o nada, solo un espacio abierto en el centro del pueblo y al lado de la Iglesia San Carlos Barromeo fue convertido en un parque. Hoy es un lugar con mucha sombra y varios bancos, y un piso de ladrillo. Este último es un detalle muy común en Santo Domingo de parques y plazas que cubren un espacio de origen de la época de los españoles.

Comúnmente se denomina Parque de San Carlos porque el sector es referido como San Carlos, sin embargo su nombre completo incluye el nombre completo del sector, que es el original con que fue fundado el pueblo en 1685; Parque de San Carlos de Tenerife.

Contaba Luis Eduardo Alemar en sus noticulas periodísticas que, a mediados del siglo diecinueve llegó a la Ciudad de Santo Domingo, un español cuyo nombre no se ha conservado, pero a quien todo el mundo llamaba Barriguilla por tener el abdomen muy pronunciado. Para esa época el palacio virreinal de don Diego Colón (alcázar de Colón) se hallaba en el más asqueroso aspecto. Las ruinas se habían convertido en refugio para menesterosos. Ahí fue a vivir Barriguilla. Con el tiempo, este se dedicó a la venta de gallinas y pollos. De él se contaba que en sus cartas a los parientes que aun vivían en la península, les escribía: “Vean si me va bien aquí, que habito en palacio y vivo de la pluma”.

Agreed. A paternal uncle of mine was Bonilla, and Maldonado can be seen in the East (the leader of the PRD, Miguel Vargas Maldonado is an example, albeit on the mother's side). My own one of Lozano is far less common, and I suspect it either came to this island via Cuba or Venezuela.
