The drama of the Jesuits in South America, Christianizing natives and protecting them of the Spanish brutality and Portuguese slave traders was shown in the famous movie "The Mission". However, for whatever reason that movie forgot to show the real music of the Jesuit missions in South America.
Jesuits created a school of barroque music in South America, with composers among the priests and natives as well. The pieces usually were song in native languages. Thousand of compositions were discovered recently, and the world is just starting to know that legacy.
