Danish sperm banks have registered a sharp rise in demand, while potential parents are placing increasing demands on the qualities their children should possess, writes the Christian daily Kristeligt Dagblad: "In many areas we have become used to having far more alternatives than previous generations had. ... Nevertheless certain ethical problems come hand in hand with these new developments. It would be distressing if people increasingly felt that life can be created pretty much as one wants. ... Nevertheless it should be remembered that a somewhat manic enthusiasm to design the perfect life is itself born of the deeply human desire to want the very best for one's unborn child. Certainly, the preparations of childless parents can be naive and open to criticism. But that changes nothing in the fact that the desire for life is deeply rooted in humans, and this desire should not be obstructed." (05/08/2009)
