I think Norwegian as well as European politicians have been naive and unwilling to respond to Islam in the same way they have Christianity, i think this is changing these days, but i fear that its still mostly Christians and other religious groups that will be the leaders of this political change, and in so doing it will likely reopen old wounds that secularism had moved on from, especially in regards to feminism which is in stark contrast to majority Islam as well as many Christian branches..

The comment about Islam becoming more and more unified is not correct, on the contrary its becoming more and more divided, especially in the younger generation, a good example on this forum is the prevalence of Quranists, while in the wider world these Quranists are fringe minority, but there are large segments (majority actually) following various forms of "folk islam", which is often divided into culture by regionalism and tribalism...

Eitherway, the right will win the next election here this fall, i am near 90% sure about that, and even though i am a socialist, it is time for a change, so i will vote right also, as i think we need to deal with this and similar issues in a moderate way, take away the scene from more extremes and normalize the debate about Multiculturalism and Islam in todays Secular Norway..

There is no such thing as a Norwegian Muslim, unless perhaps an ethnic Norwegian converted... more Liberal BS I see.

We have to love these false-identities like 'Norwegian-Muslims', and this is coming from someone who has nothing against Muslims. But this is unfair to the Norwegian people to dilute and replace their national and cultural identity. I am guessing the author of the article wanted to be politically-correct and not to offend Muslims who happen to have a Norwegian passport, but let's be realistic -- they aren't Norwegian.

Firstly Religion is independent from any ethnic or national identity, hence the usage of Muslim Norwegian, Christian Norwegian, ect.

Secondly the article features especially one former radical convert whom is also ethnic Norwegian..

If any of you guy's had bothered to read the article rather then just spew out bullshit, this could have been a rewarding conversation, but instead i feel like a kindergarten teacher who has to discipline a bunch of kids..

Actually one can thank the UN charter which we accepted (among many other nations) and hence have to take in so and so many refugees every year...

Mainstream Islam (Sunnisim and Shiism) will go to the same historical graveyard in which Catholicism and most other Christian Churches are now scouting a good resting place.

Sunnism is a theologically broken religion, while it's Holy Scripture doesn't contradict it self like many others, the practice, later additions and traditions which are imbedded in it just won't have a place in modern and ever globalized world as more and more Muslims enter the middle class.

But honestly I couldn't give two flying shits for Sunnis, my money is that by 2050 Sunnism will be fractured as hell and Great Schism like event will happen as the critical mass of "Ilm Muslims" and other Quraniyoon groups increases.

Norway, just as most of Europe paradoxically will probably be the last place where the "Islamic reform" will be felt (if you don't count in the massive numbers of conversions from Islam to other religions, growth of secularism and humanism in newer generations), in EU the fractured shell of Sunnism will be the straw the remaining Muslims (we're not speaking Bosnian or Dado like "Muslims" but actual ones, which know more than three prayers between them) there will identify by.

My only regret is that fracturing can't get here soon enough.

You really think European Muslims are less reform oriented then those outside Europe? I think they are quite radical in many things, such as gay mosques which will not happen in most Arabic speaking countries anytime soon, while in China i can see it happening, also maybe in South East Asian..

It will probably happen after the new fledged "Islamic democracies" and clergy prove that they aren't capable of fulfilling the basic needs, the productive and reform minded bourgeoisie picks up the pieces.

While let's think about the migrants from Muslim countries in Norway and Europe. Do you honestly think that they are open minded, educated people from middle class willing to adopt a new life style drastically different from their own? Those guys go to US, the human waste which for what ever reason shares some elements of religion with me, and is seeping into Europe isn't exactly on par with Muslims in US like the guy who founded the Khan Academy, or all those innovators, economists, architects and engineers on which the model of "new Muslim" is built. What we get is the bottom of the bucket of Islamic world, shit 99% of sane Bosniaks WOULDN'T WANT IN THEIR COUNTRY even though we share the same religion, they only come here to leach of the social net of the natives.

TL;DR: Muslim migrants in Europe are no where near the quality the Americans get, and they never will be while there are so many ample state tits they can suckle on.

Yes i also think the problems and eventual fall of the Islamist democracies in Egypt, Tunisia ect will lead to new thought, but i dont think it will be them who become the avant garde of the reformation..

I think Muslims in Europe will feel the squeeze more and more as europe elect conservatives into power on an increasing %, and the local culture gets a front seat ride to Islam versus today when Islam is often favoured versus Christianity and local customs. I think this will force many moderates to become more active and so take the lead..but we will see...

I agree that Europe is too uncritical of its intake of immigrants, but that too is changing these days and many immigrant men are childless and so in a generation this will be less of a problem..
Iknow even Bosnia has issues with radical immigrants, many whom came there during the war time to fight as jihadis, but whom are now too conservative for most Bosnians to handle...

Most of those migrants have returned home, Bosnia's prospering economy and openness of new "interpretations" of Islam probably left a good impression :D
