Hi there,

I'm an American woman of Celtogermanic/Old Stock descent, largely Pennsylvania German and a smidgeon of Scottish. I discovered this site while browsing at Skadi Forum, though I'm relatively new to preservationist forums in general. I'm a conservative at heart with a preference for tradition and small government. I enjoy gardening, collecting guns, and bluegrass & folk music. I look forward to contributing and getting more acquainted with the place.

Welcome to the forum Tansy, I'm sure you'll find some people here with the same interests as you, certainly the gun bit anyway. I think I've seen some others into that "music" you mention :p

Jeepers Thrymmie, don't forget the gardening! LOL! Check out the Botany thread sometime Tansy. Hmm I'm not sure that your name has come up yet though.:D

From PA Dutch country eh? Well we have a nice little group of Pennsylvanians here so I'm sure you'll come across them in no time! :) Not a one has sent me any Hershey chocolates though so I might not talk them up much more than this for now. LOL! :P :D

Oh, my manners, welcome here btw! Glad you could join us. Make yourself at home and have fun!

Cheers for now!...Aemma :)

You mean Pennsylvania German? ;)

I've got some of the Pennsylvania Dutch/German - whatever the hell you want to call it - in my blood. They were the first settlers of my region of the state.

My grandfather still says 'Gott Im Himmel!" when he curses.

The Tansy Flower Fairy, as painted by Cicely Mary Barker

Song of the Tansy Fairy
by Cicely Mary Barker

In busy kitchens, in olden days,
Tansy was used in a score of ways;
Chopped and pounded,
when cooks would make
Tansy puddings, and tansy cake,
Tansy posset, or tansy tea;
Physic or flavouring tansy'd be
People who know
Have told me so!

That is my tale of the past; today,
Still I'm here on the King's Highway,
Where the air from the fields
is fresh and sweet,
With my fine-cut leaves, and my flowers neat,
Were ever such button-like flowers seen-
Yellow for elfin coats of green?
Three in a row-
I stitch them so!
