Well, Philips has found it hard to compete with the Korean and Japanese electronics companies and is trying to focus on what it does best - medical equipment. It's sad to see one of the last European consumer electronics companies give up though. :(

But whos paying for health care? Its the government itself. They are basically going out from the real market consumer economy to tax payer subsided business.
Its like the dutch tax payer is already bailing them out for their failures. Same for Siemens who gets also money from useless Wind turbines and trains along healthcare all things which i have to pay. They are hailed as big european player and smart but they nothing more than bunch of leeches who dont want to admit they live from european taxpayers, we should nationalize such companies in the first place.

Thank god germany has also small companys we would be fucked up without them

But who's health care though? Not just the Netherlands, Philips is available internationally and I've seen it in British hospitals. The electric toothbrushes probably come under its healthcare division too. It isn't a "leech" as you say, someone has to make such equipment.:picard1:
