My Doug McDonald results

I thought I would make a separate thread for these results.


Doug McDonald results.

Most likely fit is 70.5% (+- 15.4%) Europe (all Southern Europe)

and 29.5% (+- 15.4%) Europe (various subcontinents)

which is 100% total Europe



The following are possible population sets and their fractions,

most likely at the top

Tuscan= 0.805 Lithuani= 0.195 or

Tuscan= 0.635 Hungary= 0.365 or

Tuscan= 0.772 Belorus= 0.228 or

Tuscan= 0.391 Romania= 0.609 or

Tuscan= 0.815 Finland= 0.185 or

Tuscan= 0.812 Russian= 0.188





This looks very much like what the green spot on teh map says: Balkan.

So do these results indicate that I am 100% indigenous to Europe, or more precisely, the Southern Europe/Balkans? Or is it only within a 500 year stretch like 23andme?

Who else here got the conclusion "100% total Europe" from Doug McDonald's analysis?

I just have a tiny blip of south asia on the chromosome chart but my results were also 100% European. I clustered closest to Hungary for some reason. So they aren't all that accurate sometimes.

But yes, you are 100% indigenous to Europe. Why would you think you aren't?

The 500 year stretch on 23andme. I don't know. That's a good question. I don't know where 23andme gets the 500 year thing from. These are just comparing your sample to other known population samples and those are recent. I think the 500 year thing is a bit arbitrary and maybe just a marketing phrase for people who are mixed/Americans who want to know what they are closest too in Europe or elsewhere because the tests can't be completely precise at this point. But I don't know enough about it unfortunately.

Well that tiny speck of south Asian which shows up on your chromosome chart is probably just what they consider 'noise'. I show 0.1% east Asian on my ancestry composition, but there is no sign of it on my McDonald results, which also probably means it's just noise.

I'm not denying it, I'm just curious to know whether the analysis by Doug indicates a continuity of European ancestry longer then the supposed 500 year stretch advertised by 23andme. I am hopeless with genetic ancestry, so I just wanted some opinions. :)
