View Full Version : Turkey’s tourism revenue up 17.2 percent in the fourth quarter

Data released by the Turkish Statistics Institute (TurkStat) on Wednesday shows that tourism revenue increased by 17.2 percent in the fourth quarter of 2012 over the same period of 2011, hitting USD 6.1 billion.
According to the data, 75.1 percent of that revenue originated with foreign visitors, while 24.9 percent came from Turks living abroad. Out of the total expenditures of visitors, individual expenses constituted around USD 5.2 billion while around USD 900 million of it came from tour companies.

Total tourism revenue increased by 1.8 percent in 2012 compared to the year before, bringing in a total of USD 23.5 billion last year. Of the total revenue, 77.9 percent came from foreign visitors and 22.1 percent from Turkish citizens residing abroad. Data provided by TurkStat indicated that USD 18.8 billion was spent by individual tourists, while USD 4.6 billion came from travel agency tour packages.

The country’s Mediterranean resort of Antalya is listed with Paris, London, New York, and Singapore as one of the top 5 tourist destinations in the world. The country itself is the 6th most popular country with 29.3 million arrivals in 2011, according to the World Tourism Organization’s (UNWTO) “Tourism Highlights 2012” report.

I always been wanting to visit Turkey after I heard that song Kiss Kiss by that kid Tarkan a few summers ago lol
