Actually I can remember when I started to prefer tea over coffee, it was 1980
I was on a train at 7:00 am taking me to Wolverhampton, I was sat in the buffet car trying to drink a plastic cup of coffee whilst eating 2 rounds of toast, the coffee was so bad I changed it for a cup of tea without sugar.

Reliance on any substance is usually bad. It's not healthy to be so dependant on caffeine. Also, negative affects can hit some people harder than others in excess amounts.

Thanks for the advice.

Health effects of coffee

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Health_effects_of_coffee

The health effects of coffee have been studied to determine how coffee drinking affects humans. Coffee contains several compounds which are known to affect human body chemistry. The coffee bean itself contains chemicals which are mild psychotropics for humans as a defense mechanism of the Coffee plant. These chemicals are toxic in large doses, or even in their normal amount when consumed by many creatures which may otherwise have threatened the beans in the wild. The primary psychoactive chemical in coffee is caffeine, which acts as a stimulant.

Recent research has uncovered additional stimulating effects of coffee which are not related to its caffeine content. Coffee contains a currently unknown chemical agent which stimulates the production of cortisone and adrenaline, two stimulating hormones.

A May 2012 study published in the New England Journal of Medicine found that coffee drinkers "who drank at least two or three cups a day were about 10 percent or 15 percent less likely to die for any reason during the 13 years of the study."

Two large cups in the morning, one in the afternoon.

I don't know if it's the case anymore, but north Europeans used to drink from smaller cups than Americans.

Americans drink from Mugs, which are larger than Cups.

This should be considered, if we compare the number of cups.

Gotta be porcelain, otherwise it does not taste right.

Depends on my mood. If it is a normal day, one to two. If I have a lot of work to do, one to five, but not more. I have to say that lately I have not been drinking coffee that much. The senseo machine is broken and I have to use other machine, which coffee I don't like that much. My favorite coffee is Cappuccino, but I also like dark fresh coffee or Turkish coffee on occasion. Preferable after a good meal.

So true, porcelain cups is the key, ceramic ones are not good and glass ones are unthinkable with coffee.

I recently upgraded myself to "gourmet" level for coffee. I bought this Ottoman style coffee grinder tool few months ago. It`s made with copper and handmade polished;
http://www.bicakcinaim.com/urun/resimler/pirinc_kahve_el_degirmeni_1256567822.jpg

I am buying raw coffee seeds anymore and grinding it myself. This causes an instant explosion of aromas and smells better than any perfumes to my nose. Finally i brew it in a french press and enjoy my coffee.

Ofc i can brew Turkish coffee too by using this tool.

5 or more.Depends on how late I stay at work.I adore coffee and its smell:):coffee:

I am abnormally sensitive to caffeine. Coffee, tea, cola beverages and chocolate all contain caffeine and I have to be careful not to over-indulge in any of them. Decaffeinated coffee upsets my stomach, too acid. I find some decaffeinated teas almost tasteless and caffeine-free cola beverages don't taste right, alas.

Too much caffeine gives me me anxiety attacks even though I take venlafaxine to prevent anxiety. The anxiety is accompanied by tachycardia and palpitation. So, even though I like coffee, I have decided that coffee does NOT like me and I eschew it.

Americans don't really have a Cafe culture, most Americans do not drink coffee at the place where it is bought, they take it when them on the go i.e. at work, in the car, etc. hence the reason for a paper cup. Starbucks even has drive thrus which is incomprehensible for most Europeans.

While Europeans like to go to a cafe and drink the coffee there.

Yes, it must be because of different lifestyles. I have never bought a coffee and walked away to drink it outside. I am quite sure that 49 out of 50 Turkish customers goes to Starbucks with someone by them and sit in there to chat together while drinking coffee.

I don't like the taste of coffee alone (I find it too strong/bitter) even though I like its scent, so I don't drink coffee..if I do, it's just 1 cup per day and it would have more milk & sugar than coffee. I was always amazed at how people here can tolerate drinking Turkish/Arabic coffee, which is extremely concentrated, thick and bitter. It has to be served without any additives (sugar/milk/sweeteners..).

When I drink coffee I must do something with it(socialize, reading, browsing the web, studying, music, etc) I also like expierementing with my coffee and doing all sorts of stuff to it. Ice coffee, mix some almonds, put some whip cream with fudge, etc.

I try to limit my coffee intake. 1-2 cups max a day and I usually strategise to drink it for the moment I need it the most(midday) for studying.

Here is some information about schizophrenia and smoking:

Research during the past decade has revealed that nicotine is an especially addictive substance for people with schizophrenia and bipolar disorder. Approximately 85% of people who have schizophrenia are also heavy cigarette smokers (and 60% to 70% of people with bipolar disorder) and they smoke two to three times as much as an average smoker. In fact it has been estimated that 44% of all cigarettes used in the US are smoked by the mentally ill. The negative effects of smoking are clear - cigarette smoking causes 30% of deaths between the ages of 35 and 70, noted the Harvard Mental Health Letter (May, 2005) and "in patients with schizophrenia, cigarette smoking is probably the single most important risk factor for developing pulmonary disease, including asthma... and lung cancer." stated Clinical Psychiatry journal (April, 2005). Experts estimate that smoking kills 200,000 mentally ill people per year.

Research now suggests that people with brain disorders smoke at a high rate partly because nicotine reduces some of the cognitive dysfunction that is a common symptom. In fact researchers are now working to identify and develop nicotine-like drugs they hope will provide even more relief but without the addiction and negative health impacts of cigarette smoking.

Research clearly demonstrates that people who smoke cigarettes should stop smoking immediately. Cigarettes are the most health-damaging of all nicotine and tobacco products because of the way the smoke (with over 3,000 different chemicals) delivers toxins into the body. If a person doesn't want to quit nicotine entirely they should at minimum use the less harmful nicotine/tobacco products identified below. Experts estimate these low-toxin nicotine products will likely help reduce premature death risks by 90% or more.

I cut down quite a bit, from 8-9 cups a day to 3-4 cups-a-day, these days.

Recently though, my coffee cups have gone up in size, dramatically. I use those big continental "grande"(?) cups that you got at Costa. They're typically more than twice the volume of a standard coffee mug.
I blame Tassimo, been drinking more and weirder coffees of late.
