View Full Version : Am I the only one??

I'll start an internet search on a very innocuous topic and then end up at the filthy underbelly of the internet. I never go searching for horrible things but they just seem to happen. And then I feel so dirty because I've seen things I rather shouldn't have.

I started an innocent search on the Ganges River in India. This landed me on a site where someone took a whole lot of photos of dead bodies floating in the Ganges. And that lands me at some gore site with other horrible images I could have done without.

Now I feel defiled. :(

Does this happen to other people too, or am I the only one who ends up in strange places?

I usually never go past the first page of Google.

It depends on your search string, and how deep down you go. I have searched a lot of stuff, and never come up "bad". Ya, I have seen those Ganga river images. Horrible, being from India.

That's the nature of the internet ... they put up anything that could be sensational. People want to see gore ... it is in human nature. Unfortunately.

Wait...there's more than one page per Google search?!

To answer your question Kaz: no. Maybe you should stick with google seaches haha :p are you on deepweb or something?

I don't generally either, and in this case I didn't.

I'm beginning to think there is something wrong with me. :(

No. Just a normal google search.

But I suppose I'm also partially to blame, because if something says EXPLICIT, GRAPHIC, 18+ ONLY then I'm the first person to click and see what the fuss is about.

One can always enable Safe Search for Google, if session-ed in.

LOL! Yes. That was another one of those searches which went wrong. It was just so weird I couldn't look away, and then clicked some more..... and then. OH GOD NO! How is this possible? Wait, it MUST be possible! But HOW?? Let me search some more..... Eew! That looks...... odd. This is TERRIBLE! It CANNOT be! Wait..... click, click, click... **lightbulb moment** make a thread on Apricity!

I always have safe search on anyways. To filter out all the crap.

I have pondered this matter. And I have come to a conclusion. It seems the problem is not the internet or google. It's me. No amount of safe search is going to cure me from being my normal curious, nosy self that needs to know, see and click everything.

Problem solved. :)

Yes, I have the same issue with let's say 'odd' search results springing up. I too let my curiosity get the better of me.

But there definitely still is an underworld of smut and oddness that the internet is built on.

I read this thread last night and while searching for terms on American politics I came across this delightful image below, which I saved to share with all the fine citizens of TA. :D

http://www.newschops.com/544/GOPelephant_breeding544.jpg

I looked at the site (Newschops (http://www.newschops.com/)) and found even more 'imaginative' pictures there, many of them humourous, such as this one/

http://www.newschops.com/544/nuclear_iran544.jpg

So you're not completely to blame here Kaz. The internet is what it is. :)

(Feel free to remove the Palin elephant images if it breaks forum rules, I was unsure but included it anyway)

Nothing wrong with that image at all! It won't get removed.

I think I end up on weird sites because of my interests. I'm in the medical field, so I will search strange diseases which other people won't search. Or various odd conditions. And these usually lead to gore websites. I normally hit on the stuff which involves bodies in various stages of decomposition and bloating, severe trauma etc etc. The kind of thing gore freaks live for.

I just feel a bit strange sometimes, like this morning, inspecting the degree of bloating and putrefaction on the face of a murder victim and thinking, "Who else looks at this stuff on a Wednesday morning before breakfast?" And along with gore websites come some rather "interesting" (for lack of a better word) fetishes that NEED to be clicked on. Gore and weird fetish go hand-in-hand.

I never end up with political stuff because I don't do searches related to that. I just end up with the really weird shit and then wonder whats wrong with me. I was a paramedic and seeing car crashes and decapitated people and body parts is like going back to work. What disturbs me more is the people who get a thrill out of such websites. Some of the comments made about this murder victim were terrible. I don't feel so bad about looking at the pictures because I've seen it all in person already, but being on a website with freaks who get turned on by this stuff... that is what makes me feel uneasy. I feel like I've been defiled just being there. And how this stuff gets on the internet in the first place is equally disturbing because it has to come via police photographers, morticians etc. How do I know that the dead body of my mother will not end up at a gore website (depending how she died) with some rotbrain teenager making lewd comments over her body? THIS is what gets to me most.

The Ganges river is used for everything in India. Perhaps more so then any other hydrologic entity. Hence why you saw "everything".

Yes. But then I clicked and clicked and clicked some more and ended up at a gore website with execution scenes etc etc. Nasty stuff. Stuff that should not be there.

Ohhhh....I thought it was gore stuff related to the Ganges River specifically. Which is a total possibility of seeing as well.

Yes. The Ganges is how it all started. And then I was led down some dark paths with words like GRAPHIC and EXPLICIT. And there it was. Porn itself does nothing for me. UNLESS its some really weird shit I haven't seen before and needs to be investigated by yours truly.

That is how I ended up with your octopussy stuff. And then also the stuff that was too weird for the forum.

I like how were're back on the octopussy.:)

Although I believe there are different fetishes that apply to India and I do believe I recall a wood cut of Indra in the form of a bear 'having a very good time' if you get my drift...although I don't think this was by the Ganges.:D

I had a similar experience with Ganges and the dead bodies, I found a thread about it on a Chinese phorum (????) and I ended up looking at videos of jihadist executions in N/Africa... which were disgusting and disturbing to the point that I didn't sleep well that night. Internet is a great tool but it has this dark holes waiting for the unsuspected victim to fall in.

:( yeah the same thing sometimes happens to me too. Once I searched 'Eastern Afghanistan' to see what the people there looked like, and it just came up with lots of horrible war images of people who had been killed. Or when I searched up 'Afghan women' because I've heard they are stunning, and similar pictures came up :(

I never search for those terms but I got on one because somebody shared a link with explicit videos. It was horrible.

There were people who got heavy injuries because of car crash, or horrible videos of war, and torture videos from latin America and people who were alive but had maggots somewhere. That was the frist and last time I clicked on such a website. I took it pretty well actually but I think those sites infect the brain. Nothing fascinates me about those things.

The only thing that fascinated me was gangnam(or something) river in India, where people dump their loved ones in the river and other people take baths in the same river. I found it bizar that people would just leave the bodies of their loved ones near or in the river and just walk away.

It happens to me as well. Sometimes, I will stumble across a site so fucking depraved, I literally know that if I were to open it, it would give me nightmares for weeks....not to mention cause uncontrollable sobbing. One such example were these Animal Crush Videos I came across completely by accident. I read what they were all about and nearly threw up. They happened in China....and the animals involved were usually kittens or puppies. The sickest part? Women were doing this....dainty-looking Chinese women.

I couldn't fucking believe my eyes. No...I did not watch the videos....there was no way in hell I could put myself through that sort of torture. There are no animal rights laws in China, and it shows.

Holy... I didn't need to know about that.

I must say though, I've never ended up on something nasty that involved animals, even without Safesearch. I guess I mostly Google tame things ;)

The gore sites, I have seen on occasion. :coffee:

Yes. I have seen those crush videos too. Of course I click too see and its horrible. I've only watched one or two in disbelief. I won't go there again. It's horrible. So horrible.

At least I feel better now that I am not the only one. I really thought there was something wrong with me.

What is most frightening is that there is a demand for this. It wouldn't exist without a demand and definitely not in the quantities which are available. The scariest part for me is that people watch this and like it.

Can you all give me some examples, what you were searching for, and stumbled upon something horrible. Just the search string, the resultant output really does not matter. Quite surprised, this hardly happens to me. I surf at home with all security off on Google.
