He would of course have Gaelic (Celtic) ancestry. Keating is a very common name in Ireland and many people in Ireland have Norman names. Norman ancestry would be very diluted now and a surname does not show all your ancestry. Fitzgerald is a Norman name and how common is that in Ireland? The Normans were completely absorbed into the Irish population. Even Irish with Gaelic names have Norman names in their family trees. Even I come up with French/German dna on 23andMe.

I never said Norman surnames were not common in ireland, i was implying his paternal ancestors were recent invaders to Ireland. They haven't even been Irish for 950 years yet. That does make him considerably less Irish than someone whose ancestors have been there since the Paleolithic.

The only problem with that is that a majority of the Irish population have Norman names in their family trees. My married name is Norman. Norman derived names are incredibly common in Ireland. Also the Normans that came to Ireland were Cambro-Normans so they had been in Wales and England for quite a period of time. Some common Norman derived Irish names are Lynch, Darcy, all the Fitz names (except Fitzpatrick), Burke, Costello, Joyce, Butler. I could go on but there are so many. It is interesting that L21 which is the most common R1b in Ireland also appears very numerous in Normandy. So it is a bit difficult to find out what Norman dna is. The Normans that came to Ireland would be carrying a lot of Welsh/English genes with them.

You are very stupid, one norman surname does not mean he has any more norman ancestry than the average Irish. Statistically every Irish person will have a similar number of norman surnames in their family tree.
