This headline isn't hyperbole, or overextension, or us rearranging the idea to make it punchier: a group of cognitive science researchers are intentionally building an evil artificial intelligence. Which raises a lot of important questions: what is true evil? What are the ethics of creating evil? And how do so many people get jobs as scientists without ever seeing a scifi movie?

I suppose that in order to create an AI that is 'evil,' you have to buy into the concept of evil itself. Therefore, that AI would have to have a Manichean, if not Abrahamic, concept of absolute good and evil. Now, a Heathen scientist might say that you'd be better off creating an AI that has a sense of honor, instead! :)

they probly mean amoral, as opposed to immoral. Thus not evil as such, merely logical.
