Reposting this from other board, sorry to those that have to read it twice :D

Ok: to make a long story short, my old Samsung phone broke down on Monday.

By 'broke down' I essentially mean it fails to charge (and it was not the charger's fault), so as soon as the battery died, that was the end of it.

So I came home and dug out an old, unused Nokia I had in store.

Not nearly as pretty and compact as the previous one, in fact it's a bit bulky, it has a lousy camera and lacks in features...but what I noticed at once is how strong its battery is, it has a duration of about 3 days, while the previous one lasted me for less than a day...

Anyways, today I decided to fool around a bit with my new phone's menu.

So I was checking the SMS settings, and I stumbled upon 'template' messages (ready-made messages stored in the phone to use quickly in common situations).

So I read:

- I am late. I will be there at

- I'm in a meeting. Call me later at

- I'm busy right now. I'll call you later.

- I will be arriving at

- Meeting is cancelled

- See you at

- See you in

- Please call

- I love you too

I love Nokia phones, I wouldn't get anything else :thumb001:.

I have a 6300 (http://gosecure.be/images/gsm/Nokia/NO316300ZW_Nokia_6300_BlackSilver.jpg) and a 6270 (http://z.about.com/d/cellphones/1/0/j/b/nokia-6270-multi.jpg).

I still think the 8310 is very beautiful.

And let's not forget that before they got into the cellphone business, the company produced the famous "Nokia youth councelors", i.e. rubber batons for the cops. :D

"Nokia" also used be a slang word for a black person, since all the products that the Nokia rubber factories made (said batons, rubber boots, car tires) were, eh, black.

Nokia is my favourite too. I have two 6300 (http://europe.nokia.com/A4254241)'s and a new 6600 slide (http://www.nokia.co.uk/6600_slide).

I can't stand ericsson phones. Nokias are far more user-friendly.

My first Nokia was one of those very first huge, heavy things, but boy, was it tough!! And afterwards got one of the little Ericssons with the flap that opened and hut - most user-unfriendly little piece of junk I ever had. Reception range was not too good either. More about this little "monster" later..

Now I have two Nokia 1100's just very, very basic instruments - Im too old to learn how to "drive" these new technological miracles that can do anything - as long as I can dial out, receive and send messages, speak to my loved ones wherever they are, and not carry around something heavy, I'm happy!!

Back to the Ericsson - eventually the battery needed replacing as that had seen better days - in fact, it was leaking already, and couldn't get another one for love or money. So we kept it in the car, visible for all to see, just in case some criminally-inclined personage decided to demand that I hand over my cellphone - here in "sunny S.A." this is a national sport, among other "sports."

Then in August we had to fly to Johannesburg, staying two days before returning, so we parked the car in the undercover parking at the airport and off we went. Lo and behold - when we got back, the first thing we noticed was that aforesaid Ericsson had taken a walk! How the perpetrator had managed to roll down the window on the driver's side, boggles the mind, but nothing else was disturbed, because the alarm light was still blinking, and the perp must have realised that if he opened the door, the alarm would have screamed blue murder. Fact of the matter is, I'm wondering wither it could even have been one of the so-called "security guards" that had taken the phone, thinking how lucky he was - heh-heh! Not so, seeing those phone batteries are totally unobtainable anywhere!!! Best part of the joke is that the charger is still here at home too!!

The other evening our eldest came to visit, and she pack a Blackberry. I was looking at it and she was trying to explain aoo the fundtions on this thing. Said to her: "Dear child, don't even TRY explaining all the ins and outs - all I know is that if I had to have one of those, I'd have to have a Code 50 driver's licence for it!" She thought that hilarious!

Never had one, only Siemens and Sharp. Then again, I don't mind if my phone doesn't have an integrated coffee brewer.

I used to love Nokia phones! I made sure to get them everytime I got a new phone.
Then I was introduced to the world of Sony Ericsson, and I converted to the dark side. :worship:

Yes, the best one I decorated with geometric patterns when I was an art student. Then after that I had the fancy silver one:

...which a lover gave to me.

Years later someone I met randomly in Cambridge gave one one of those indestructible nokias:

The legendary 3510.

I want another one. It even went through the washing machine.

Unfortunately, I lost it in Greece.

I need another. They are indestructible!

I get a Sony Ericsson with a fancy camera and lot of memory with my contract, but you never know when you will need a pay-as-you-go, that is, if you, like me, never pay your bills on time.

Most people I know have a Nokia and if there's a reception blackspot they'll find it.

Mine is a Motorola it has lots of features, my favourite is the off button.:thumb001:

The 'indestructible'

http://www.polyphonicwizard.com/phoneguide/3510.jpg

I used to have it but it seemed to bulky and un-chic to me. I gave it to an ex of mine who was a fire-fighter. I am telling you, this phone went through forest fires, extreme temperatures...nothing happened to it!

The 'idiotproof':

Back in the days when I was trying to convince my mom to catch up with the world and learn how to use a mobile phone, it always seemed impossible, no matter how much I tried... :D

Then a friend of hers had the idea of buying her this model. She said 'try this one, it's idiotproof'.
And alas, the menu was so simple...that even my mom could use it! :propeller:

Nokia have fallen behind with smart phones though. They still produce reliable lower-end phones though.
