I have a fair amount of German ancestry. But I would think this would work the other way, i.e., Ashkenazis having North Central. I also have about 20-25% Italian and Armenian descent, but I would think that would be Sephardic.

I think for the Jtest, you must compare your percentages to the averaged Ashkenazi percentages of the ethnicity you fall into per Eurogenes Jtest population source results. If you have an above average percentage in the Ashkenazi category per your ethnicity/source population, then it means you actually inherited some Jewish genes from an actual Jewish ancestor. You can't say that. You maybe don't have in recent generations, but it is intertwined in Europe to a degree.

I think us Afrikaners would have some of the lowest of that element, since our ancestors mostly left Europe by 1700 - and skipped much of the Jewish spread in Germany and other places.

Doug said I didn't have any Jewish autosomal components and my Jtest was slightly below average for Tuscans which is my primary population source per the calculator. Here's mine:

One must also understand that Ashkenazis are only one section of Jews. Other Jews would probably fall into the Middle Eastern category.

Here's part of the logic behind the Jtest per the creator:


I’ve seen the same effect caused by Finns, who, like the Ashkenazi, are a bottlenecked population of a varied biogeographical makeup. I used them as a reference population in the Eurogenes K12b test, available at GEDmatch, mainly because of requests from Swedes and Russians who were wondering whether they had any Finnish ancestry.

In that test, for instance, Swedes who score above 20% in the Finnish cluster most certainly do have recent Finnish influence. However, many people of Swedish, Norwegian, Danish and other North and East European backgrounds score as much as 15% in that cluster, without any reasonable expectation of gene flow from Finland. But that’s because many of the Finns I used as references carried strong Scandinavian and/or North Russian admixture, which was not something I could avoid. So in fact, when someone shows low-level Finnish admixture in that test, it doesn’t have to mean they actually have Finnish ancestry, but rather, it might be because they come from a population that has contributed to the Finnish gene pool.

However this is also said:


The Ashkenazi cluster is very similar to the Middle Eastern cluster in that regard. So anyone who gets an Ashkenazi score of around 2-3% either has very distant Jewish ancestry or, more likely, none at all. However, those who show more than 25% membership in that cluster are almost certainly of fully Ashkenazi ancestry, and their genomes peppered with Ashkenazi-specific chromosomal segments

Your results seem quite similar to my mothers side of the family, minus the West African and swapping some of the East Med for West Asian. :)

The East Euro/South Baltic ratio is different but it equals out at roughly the same, maybe a bit more.

At least it's every nail in the coffin for those people claiming you were Jewish, and not in a nice way. You get less Ashkenazi than most people who don't have Jewish ancestry. :P

Unfortunately I do too. It doesn't appear that I saved the sheet ether. I think people with Balkan ancestry usually scored what you got regarding your Ashkenazi component. In other words it doesn't look overly inflated.

As for east med, well that may have more to do with the whole maritime Neolithic concept that Polako talked about. So its not an actually indicator of Jewish ancestry per se.
